Job Title:
Medical Assistant - OB/GYN Clinic Job Description This Medical Assistant position supports a busy OB/GYN clinic by providing high-quality clinical and administrative assistance to patients, providers, and the care team. You will play a key role in rooming patients, collecting clinical data, performing phlebotomy, supporting procedures, and ensuring a smooth, welcoming experience throughout each visit. The role also involves maintaining exam rooms, assisting with scheduling and registration, and using the electronic medical record to document care accurately. Responsibilities Perform patient rooming and intake, including collecting vital signs, height, weight, and information related to the patient's reason for visit. Collect patient and family data, including medical history, social history, and other relevant information. Review and update the patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy in the electronic medical record. Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy in accordance with clinic protocols and safety standards. Review the patient record to determine whether the patient requires any routine health screenings and alert the provider as needed. Ensure exam and procedure rooms are fully stocked with appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials prior to each visit or procedure. Provide patients with after-visit summaries, follow-up instructions, self-care guidance, and procedural instructions or educational materials as directed by a provider or nurse. Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms to support efficient and safe patient care. Clean and sterilize instruments following infection control and sterilization protocols. Assist with patient registration, check-in and check-out processes, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests, treatments, and referrals. Answer clinic telephones and assist with in-basket messages under the direction of a provider or nurse, ensuring timely and courteous communication. Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse, following clinic procedures and safety guidelines. For Certified Medical Assistant II level: precept and mentor new medical assistant hires and medical assistant externs, providing training and guidance on clinic procedures. For Certified Medical Assistant II level: train other medical assistants in clinic workflows, procedures, and best practices. For Certified Medical Assistant II level: assist physicians with maintaining preventive health measures for a defined panel of patients. For Certified Medical Assistant II level: perform clinic-based quality or safety roles such as serving as clinic safety coordinator, maintaining immunization or medication registries, and conducting medication or other required audits. For Certified Medical Assistant II level: manage clinic supply ordering to ensure adequate inventory and cost-effective use of resources. Deliver excellent customer service by engaging positively with patients and families and supporting a welcoming clinic environment. Use the electronic medical record system to accurately document patient information, clinical data, and care provided. Essential Skills Current Medical Assistant certification from one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC). At least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant or demonstrated possession of equivalent competencies as outlined in a Medical Assistant, Certified advancement framework. Proven ability to perform the essential clinical and administrative functions described, including rooming patients, collecting vitals, and performing phlebotomy. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage positively with patients and families in a clinical setting. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team with providers, nurses, and other staff. Ability to use a computer and electronic medical record system to document required information accurately and efficiently. Experience providing customer service in a healthcare or clinical environment. MUST have prior OB/GYN experience in a clinical setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required. Registered or Certified Medical Assistant credentials (such asCMA, RMA
) with experience in internal medicine or similar outpatient settings are beneficial. Experience using Epic or a similar electronic medical record system. Proficiency in obtaining and documenting vital signs and other clinical measurements. Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle patient inquiries professionally and compassionately. Ability to organize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing clinic priorities. Attention to detail in clinical documentation, specimen handling, and instrument sterilization. Work Environment This role is based in an OB/GYN outpatient clinic within a large health system. The schedule follows daytime clinic hours, Monday through Friday, approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work in exam and procedure rooms equipped for women's health services, using electronic medical record systems such as Epic and standard clinical equipment for vital signs, phlebotomy, and specimen collection. The environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, with close collaboration among physicians, midwives, nurses, medical assistants, and front office staff. Infection control, cleanliness, and patient safety are high priorities, with regular cleaning, stocking, and sterilization of rooms and instruments. Professional clinical attire is expected to support a safe and respectful patient care setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Holly Springs, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
