Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Consultants in Infectious Disease - 1.0 Lincoln, NE Job Details Full-time $23.53 - $28.34 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance 401(k) Paid time off Qualifications BLS Certification Medical Assisting Patient interaction Medical assisting Working with adult populations Certified Medical Assistant Full Job Description Position Summary The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in an Infectious Disease practice provides specialized clinical and administrative support for patients with acute and chronic infectious conditions. This role requires strict adherence to infection‑control protocols, accurate documentation, and compassionate patient communication. Key Responsibilities Direct Patient Care Greet patients, verify identity, and prepare them for examination following infection‑control procedures. Obtain and document vital signs including BP, temperature, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation, and height/weight.
Conduct infectious-disease-focused intake:
exposure history, travel, symptom timeline, vaccination history, medications, and allergies. Assist providers with examinations and minor procedures (wound checks, dressing changes, lesion evaluations). Administer injections and vaccinations per provider order (Hepatitis series, TB treatment injections, etc.). Collect and prepare specimens (blood per policy, nasal/throat/wound swabs, urine, PPD placement and reading if certified). Provide patient education regarding medication adherence, infection prevention, and isolation guidelines as directed. Maintain exam rooms with proper disinfection and supplies following infectious disease protocols. Infection Control & Clinical Support Follow OSHA, CDC, and clinic‑specific infection‑prevention guidelines; use PPE appropriately. Support workflows for patients under airborne, droplet, or contact precautions. Safely handle, label, and transport infectious specimens. Manage clean/dirty equipment workflows and proper room turnover. Participate in vaccine storage, administration, and documentation. Monitor PPE, disinfectants, and clinical supply inventory. Administrative Duties Document patient encounters and clinical information accurately in the EHR. Manage referrals to infusion centers, wound care, HIV programs, or public health departments. Schedule follow‑ups, lab monitoring visits, and medication‑management appointments. Assist with patient messages regarding refills, test results, and provider instructions. Support front office operations including check‑in, insurance verification, and prior authorizations. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program required. Active CMA, CCMA, or RMA certification recognized in Nebraska. Current CPR/BLS certification. Knowledge of infection‑control practices and proper PPE use. Strong communication skills and ability to support immunocompromised or anxious patients. Experience in infectious disease, internal medicine, or hospital care preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients throughout the shift. Ability to lift 25-30 lbs (varies by clinic). Ability to wear appropriate PPE for extended periods.
Pay:
$23.53 - $28.34 per hour
