Job Description

Practice Overview Kidney Care Centers (KCC) is a leading nephrology group in New Jersey. For more than 45 years, the KCC physician practices have provided advanced treatment of kidney-related diseases and disorders. The practice has over 20 providers as of November 2025, across 10 convenient office locations in Monmouth, Ocean, and Sussex counties. Job Summary The Certified Medical Assistant - Level 1 is responsible for clinical and administrative duties to support physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in the delivery of care to patients with all types of kidney-related diseases and disorders. Duties may include, but are not limited to, patient check-in and check-out, clinical and administrative tasks, chart preparation, patient phone calls, and updating the electronic medical record. The Certified Medical Assistant - Level 1 can perform tasks independently as specifically directed or delegated by a provider. There are two positions available. One each in Eatontown and Neptune. Duties Assists assigned physician(s), nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with patient care including obtaining and documenting patient vital signs and relaying provider instructions to patients and their families. Prepares patients for examination and treatment. This may include (but not be limited to) accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers and dressing, collecting patient specimens, and preparing patients for exam, etc. Completes patient chart preparation. Updates patient Electronic Health Record (EHR), including the patient medication list and supports the successful completion of Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measures in the EHR. Works independently in CKD EHR by EPIC and other practice systems (e.g., pMD) as specifically directed or delegated by a provider. Complies with all applicable OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements, as well as applicable medical practice policies and procedures. Maintains medical supplies and ensures the cleanliness of exam rooms. Empties and replaces biohazard containers, as necessary. Answers phones, schedules patient appointments, and assists with co-pay collections, as necessary, and in a manner that delivers the highest levels of service excellence at all times. Checks physician schedules and coordinates patient flow to ensure on-time clinic schedules. Completes prior authorizations and diagnostic testing and administers different therapies as directed by a provider. Complies with OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements, as well as applicable medical practice policies and procedures. Skills & Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required. Current CPR Certification required. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification and completion of an accredited medical assistant program required. Experience measuring vital signs and performing electrocardiogram (EKG) tests, venipunctures, and injections is preferred. Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) is a must; experience with Epic is preferred. Experience with kidney disease, dialysis, or hypertension is preferred.
