Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, is responsible to assist the Medical Providers in support of medical care or either primary care and/or urgent care patients Day to day activities will vary from answering phones, taking medical histories, to performing lab work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following: Demonstrates high level of interpersonal communication skills necessary to consistently receive and greet visitors, patients, and staff members in a professional manner. Perform selected nursing and administrative duties. Ability to work well under pressure. Requires good grooming, and dress habits that reflect a professional image. Respect and maintain privacy and dignity of patients: assure patient confidentiality at all times. Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Take patient's histories and vital signs. Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments. Administer injections and apply dressings as instructed. Distribute medications as directed by Medical Providers. Requires ability to perform venipuncture. Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments (EKG, Holter Monitor, Sudo Monitor, etc.), including sterilization. Assist provider in preparing for minor surgeries and exams. Maintain Clinical Quality Matrix for ALL patients and collect data to help maintain
ACO/PCMH
compliance and the effectiveness of program requirements. Works as a member of the care team to promote best practices to improve workflow related to the
ACO/PCMH
Standards. Assist with scheduling of tests and treatments. Maintain patient files, records, and other information. Work closely with Medical Providers to receive guidance and instructions for treating patients. Perform direct patient care as instructed by the Medical Provider. Perform lab tests as directed by the Medical Provider. Maintain equipment for use at all times, in a clean and safe condition. Must have computer knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Able to type routine correspondence and reports using a personal computer. Schedules patients for medical examinations and diagnostic testing. Relays information to patients regarding preparation for laboratory tests and examinations. Answers telephones, screens callers, and relays messages. Maintains calendar, schedules appointments, and a meeting room. Opens, sorts, and screens mail. Secure the building at the close of each working day; turn off or unplug appliances and machines and lock all entrances. Other duties as assigned by Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) and preferred six (6) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registration:
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program and possess an Interim Certification and pass the National Medical Assistant Certification Exam (i.e. AAMA or NCCT) within one year of issuance in compliance with NJ Medical Examiners regulation 13:35-6.4. Current Basic Life Support/CPR certification required and/or willingness to obtain within 3 months of employment. Willing to attend continuing medical education courses at the request of the employer.

SUPERVISION
The Medical Assistant works under the physician/medical providers and is directly supervised by Administration.
