Job Description:
Gap Year Medical Assistant - Urgent Care Family First Urgent Care is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Gap Year Student to join our team as a Medical Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for a pre-medical or pre-health student to gain valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced urgent care setting. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff, providing essential support and learning fundamental clinical skills.
Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Rooming patients, obtaining vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration), and documenting patient history. Assisting with patient intake and discharge. Preparing patients for examinations and procedures. Providing compassionate and empathetic care to patients of all ages. Assisting with basic wound care, splinting, and other procedures as directed by medical staff.
Clinical Support:
Preparing and administering injections (e.g., vaccinations) under the supervision of a physician or nurse. Performing basic laboratory tests (e.g., rapid strep, urinalysis). Maintaining and sterilizing medical equipment and supplies. Managing inventory and ordering supplies. Assisting with EKGs.
Learning and Development:
Actively participating in training and educational opportunities. Shadowing physicians and other medical staff to observe clinical procedures. Demonstrating a willingness to learn and adapt to new situations. Maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from college, with plans to pursue a career in medicine or a related healthcare field. Strong interest in gaining hands-on experience in a clinical setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) is a plus. CPR/BLS certification is a plus. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and lift up to 25 pounds.
