Job Description

Job Title:
Medical Assistant for SBIRT Team Reports to:
Waves Supervisor/ DCC Supervisor Status:
Full-Time, Non-Exempt Additional Incentive:
Medical Assistants who obtain an additional certification offered internally will receive an additional $1.00/hour certification differential. The MA will work closely with the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBRIT) team. This multidisciplinary team is led by a licensed mental health professional who will provide training and guidance to equip the MA with effective communication tools to support individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges. The MA will play a key role in identifying patients in need of additional services through the Health Lifestyle Questionnaire, facilitating appropriate referrals, and ensuring continuity of care through proper scheduling and follow-up. The MA will also assist in collecting and tracking data related to SBRIT outcomes and program effectiveness. As part of this role, the MA is required to attend a two-day Motivational Interviewing training and obtain certification to support patient engagement and behavior change. In addition, the
SBIRT MA
is a part of the primary care patient care team. They work directly with patients and providers in ensuring the capture of patient information and continued patient care. As part of this role, Medical Assistants will attend a two-day Motivational Interviewing training and obtain certification to support patient engagement and behavior change.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide direct clinical services including screening, identification, rehabilitative, and supportive services as directed by clinical staff Follow all patient safety policies, procedures, and protocols Demonstrate a proactive approach to safety and continuous improvement Works together with the primary care team to ensure proper documentation of patient's medical records Responsible for patient intake and documenting a complete medical history Responsible for completion of tasks for a scheduled set of patients: Including assistance on account set up with Medicare.gov, ensures wellness exam has been completed or scheduled, assesses need for any chronic care management including assisting in closing care gaps and scheduling and enrolling in value-based care programs. Attends meetings/trainings as needed for updates and information
SBIRT Specific Responsibilities:
Administer and review Health Lifestyle Questionnaires to identify patients in need of behavioral health or substance use services Meet with patients who screen positive or show indicators of needing additional services to discuss care options and facilitate engagement in scheduled SBRIT team appointments Utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques to effectively engage patients and support their readiness to accept and participate in further mental health and/or substance use services Ensure all identified patients receive appropriate referrals and are scheduled for follow-up services Collaborate with the SBRIT team and licensed mental health professional to ensure coordinated and patient-centered care delivery Track, document, and assist in reporting data-driven outcomes related to SBRIT services
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
  • High school Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Graduate from a Medical Assistant certification program
  • CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers for
Professional Rescuer Physical Demands Requirements:

Behavioral Demands/Requirements:
  • Must have the appropriate level of behavioral maturity and patience in handling patients.
  • Must have the diplomacy and tact in handling difficult and irate patients
  • Very good interpersonal relationship skills and can work and relate well with co- employees, patients and customers
  • Outstanding communication skills and persuasiveness, specifically the ability to communicate instructions and procedures for treatments, keeping and giving the patients a desired level of comfort and confidence
  • Must have strong sensitivity to the needs and anxieties of patients and the ability tomotivate patients to undergo treatments and/or procedures
  • Strong ethics and a high level of personal and professional integrity
Pay:
$19.00 - $25.00 per hour
