About us Horizons Wellness Family Health NP PLLC is a growing family practice in Middletown, NY. We are professional, inclusive and our goal is to help our patients to maintain the best possible health.
Position Overview:
The Medical Assistant's primary responsibility is to assist Horizons Wellness' healthcare providers in delivering high-quality patient care while ensuring smooth administrative and clinical operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Support:
Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs, documenting medical history, and verifying medication lists. Perform basic medical procedures such as collecting laboratory specimens including phlebotomy; administering electrocardiograms; and Ensure examination rooms and medical equipment are clean, sterilized, and well-maintained when preparing patients for physical examinations.
Administrative Tasks:
Greet and register patients, ensuring accurate completion of medical records and insurance forms. Schedule patient appointments, procedures, and diagnostic tests, coordinating with other team members as required. Manage medical records, ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance with regulations. Handle telephone inquiries, take messages, and relay information to appropriate healthcare providers. Coordinate referrals to specialists and obtain pre-authorizations from insurance companies. Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment, ensuring appropriate stock levels.
Communication and Patient Care:
Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, addressing their concerns and providing emotional support. Relay important patient information to healthcare providers promptly and accurately. Follow up with patients regarding test results, medication changes, and appointment reminders. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while adhering to patient confidentiality regulations. Assist in patient education initiatives, providing information on preventive care, lifestyle modifications, and health promotion.
Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to established protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including HIPAA. Maintain a clean and safe working environment, following infection control protocols and safety guidelines. Stay updated on current medical practices, procedures, and relevant regulations through continuous education and training.
Qualifications and Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant training program is preferred. Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited institution is required. Bilingual in Spanish and English required Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, and common medical procedures. Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and medical billing software. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and colleagues. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of medical ethics and patient confidentiality guidelines. Familiarity with New York state regulations and requirements pertaining to medical assistants. Must be able to work Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday weekly
