Founded in 1993, St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center (SJNC) provides comprehensive, compassionate healthcare, mental health counseling, social work, and support services to individuals and families who are uninsured or face barriers to care. Each year, we serve roughly 1,500 members of the Rochester community through a holistic, person-centered model rooted in dignity, equity, and access. Our work is powered by a dedicated team of professionals and more than 450 committed volunteers who share a passion for service and community wellness.
Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports SJNC's delivery of patient care under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals. The MA performs clinical and administrative tasks within the scope of practice for unlicensed personnel as defined by New York State regulations and organizational policies. Alignment with

- Room and prepare patients for examinations
- Take and record vital signs
- Collect relevant patient data
- Perform clinical tasks such as phlebotomy and specimen collection
- Assist providers during exams and minor procedures
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to universal precautions
- Uphold HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality Department Maintenance (25%)
- Manage exam room inventory and ensure proper care of medical equipment
- Support a safe and clean clinical environment Miscellaneous (10%)
- Participate in departmental meetings and in-service training(s)
- Employees are accountable for meeting the performance standards of their department and may be called upon to participate in required compliance audits, process improvement, and quality improvement plans
- Other duties as assigned Requirements and Qualifications Medical Assistant Certification strongly preferred. Prior patient care (1-2 years') experience desired. Experience using EHR desired. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends. Skills and Abilities
