This role is responsible for the gross examination, description, and dissection of surgical specimens, assisting with frozen sections, and performing postmortem examinations under the supervision of pathologists. Key Responsibilities Gross examination and dissection of biopsies and complex surgical specimens Perform and assist with frozen section procedures Review patient histories and communicate with clinicians regarding specimens as needed Select tissue for special studies and perform specimen photography Support photomicrograph preparation for tumor conferences Oversee daily operations of the grossing room, workflow, specimen processing, and technical support staff Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and quality standards Ensure compliance with laboratory policies, documentation requirements, and safety protocols Requirements Minimum 1 year of current Pathologists' Assistant experience Active (PA)ASCP certification required (equivalent certifications not accepted) Active New York Pathology license required at submission Demonstrated competency in frozen sections, grossing biopsies, and large complex specimens Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree considered Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills Must have reliable transportation Schedule Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Travelers must commit to the full contract schedule through the assignment end date This opportunity offers the chance to work in a high-volume pathology environment while utilizing advanced grossing and frozen section skills as part of a collaborative laboratory team.
