Job Description

Nationwide Children's Hospital seeks a highly accomplished pathologist or doctoral-level scientist to serve as Assistant Director of the Biopathology Center (BPC) , a national leader in biobanking and biospecimen science supporting clinical trials and translational research. This is a unique opportunity to join a high-impact, faculty-level leadership role within a large and complex biospecimen program in the United States. Reporting to BPC leadership, the Assistant Director will provide scientific, operational and strategic leadership for a large-scale biospecimen enterprise supporting national and international clinical trials in a cancer cooperative group setting and investigator-initiated research.
The successful candidate will:
Serve as a scientific leader and principal investigator for biospecimen banking activities Help shape the strategic direction and continued growth of the BPC Oversee laboratory operations, biobanking workflows and quality systems Partner with investigators and sponsors to advance research initiatives Contribute to grant development, contracts and external collaborations This role offers the opportunity to influence research infrastructure that directly supports advances in precision medicine and patient care. About the Biopathology Center The Biopathology Center is a biorepository and laboratory program that plays a central role in supporting large-scale clinical trials and translational research across oncology and other disease areas. The Center employs approximately 200 staff, manages more than 6.5 million biospecimens across multiple storage platforms and supports major National Cancer Institute-funded cooperative group biobanks and national research programs. Assistant Director candidates will have an MD, DO and/or PhD in pathology, laboratory medicine or a related field, along with experience in biobanking, genomics, laboratory operations or clinical trials, and demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Preferred experience includes 5+ years in a biomedical research or clinical trial environment, experience with National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute-funded programs and familiarity with CAP-accredited or CLIA-certified laboratories.
