Job Description

Job Title:
Medical Assistant Reports to:
Clinical Administrative Coordinator General Summary:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for both clinical and clerical aspects of the facility. They are to support physicians, nurse practitioners and other staff members in the delivery of quality patient care. They are to follow established standards and policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent Graduate of an accredited medical assistant or related program Completion of a clinical externship Effective communication and organizational skills Medical terminology Computer proficiency on basic programs and electronic medical records
Required Physical and Environmental Demands:
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. The position requires lifting and stooping. Also, potential exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Essential Responsibilities:
Direct Patient Care:
Assists in identifying physical, psychological, and safety needs of patients and notifies appropriate physician/nurse practitioner/staff of any pertinent findings. Demonstrates clinical competence/maintains standards of care in the following procures: vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, urine dipsticks, guaiac testing, pulse oximetry, phlebotomy, proficient in administering injections; set up for various exams. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, organize and complete assignments in a timely manner. Ability to establish good working relationships with all patients. Always provides for patient safety through preventative measures utilizing proper techniques, or body mechanics, and provides comfort. Ability to use office equipment for patient care, i.e.,
EKG, Fibroscan Documentation:
Completes appropriate paperwork for patient care; records accuchecks, pulse oximetry, urine dipsticks, and any other tests performed accurately. Labels all specimens properly. All pertinent information related to the patients is to be properly written in the patient record. All documentation is legible, neat and complete.
Clerical/Receptionist:
Schedules appointments, photocopy materials, maintains medical records, accurately receives and delivers messages, utilizes computer to perform clerical duties as assigned. Ability to triage phone calls. Ability to schedule appointments, utilize fax and copy machine, answer phones in a professional manner, prepare patient charts, files, attend to medical records. Maintains inventory of pertinent supplies and initiates replenishment orders for approval by supervisor.
Accountability:
Maintains accountability for all actions taken; seeks assistance as necessary in problem solving, utilizes a systematic process in decision-making. Must have flexibility with daily routines and tasks. There will be a possibility of flexing between two facilities when needed.
Professional Standards:
Demonstrates awareness of department standards that affect accrediting organizations; problem list initiated; drug sensitivity and allergies documented; knowledgeable in emergency procedures; ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Maintain strong working relationships with interfacility staff and external referring providers. Greet patients utilizing professional communication skills and behavior.
Cleaning:
Keep all patient areas neat and uncluttered. Monitors and exchanges "sharps" containers as needed. All other duties as assigned.
