Supportive, PatientCentered Clinic Position Primary Purpose:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will support medical clinic providers by performing routine clinical and administrative duties under direct supervision. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, assisting with examinations and procedures, drawing blood, administering immunizations, maintaining accurate medical records, and providing patient education within the scope of practice. The CMA will also coordinate patient care, perform procedural coding, and ensure a safe and efficient clinical environment.
Essential Functions:
Perform routine clinical support duties for medical clinic providers under the direct, onsite supervision of a licensed health care provider, including obtaining vital signs, patient medical histories, and presenting problems, and maintaining examination and treatment rooms. Assists providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments. Maintains accurate and thorough medical records, including patient histories, problem lists, vital signs, patient communications, immunizations, and medications. Act as a scribe during patient visits when necessary. Prepares and review patient charts for upcoming appointments, including recent lab results, imaging, external consultation notes, hospital records, and new medical records. Educates patients on health maintenance, disease prevention, and compliance with treatment plans as directed by the supervising provider, within the scope of practice. Communicates lab results to patients as directed by the supervising provider. Performs procedural and diagnostic coding to ensure accurate reimbursement. Coordinates patient care by acting as a liaison between the physician and the patient, assisting in effective communication of patient needs. Conducts Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived tests and provide results to the provider. Screens patients for symptoms of illness before they enter the medical clinic. Guides patients through care pathways to ensure patient and staff safety. Supports patients with IT needs related to accessing telemedicine appointments at the Bird Houses. Sterilizes surgical instruments and manages the inventory of medical supplies and equipment. Performs blood draws and administers immunizations following proper protocols. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Key Competencies:
Proficiency in obtaining vital signs, performing blood draws, administering immunizations, and assisting with medical procedures. Understanding of medical terminology, disease prevention, health maintenance, and patient care principles. Effective communication skills for educating patients, conveying lab results, and serving as a liaison between patients and providers. Ability to maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including patient histories, vital signs, and treatment plans. Competence in performing CLIA-waived tests, diagnostic coding, and supporting telemedicine IT needs. Efficiently scrub and prepare patient charts, manage examination rooms, and maintain inventory of medical supplies. Knowledge of proper sterilization techniques for surgical instruments and adherence to safety protocols. Strong organizational skills to coordinate patient care and ensure smooth communication between patients and providers. Commitment to ethical standards, patient confidentiality, and continuous professional development.
Minimum Requirements and Education:
Current and valid certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from a recognized certification body. Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Internet applications, with the ability to effectively learn and utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Comprehensive knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Understanding and adherence to standard precautions, including proper hand hygiene and disposal of biohazardous materials. Current and valid certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from a recognized certification body. Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Internet applications, with the ability to effectively learn and utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Comprehensive knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Understanding and adherence to standard precautions, including proper hand hygiene and disposal of biohazardous materials.
Compensation Details:
This is a non-exempt, hourly position DOE. (Depending on Experience). In addition, this position qualifies for a competitive health and welfare package and generous paid time off opportunities.
