Role:
The Sterile Processing Medical Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical instruments used in patient care. This position is responsible for the meticulous cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of surgical and diagnostic equipment to meet stringent healthcare standards. The role demands a thorough understanding of sterilization techniques, infection control protocols, and equipment handling to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to maintain a sterile environment and support clinical procedures. Ultimately, this role contributes directly to the quality of patient outcomes by ensuring that all medical instruments are properly processed and ready for use.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Sterile Processing Technician training program or equivalent experience in sterile processing. Basic knowledge of sterilization methods, infection control, and medical terminology. Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate documentation. Physical ability to handle and process medical instruments safely.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent. Experience working in a hospital or clinical sterile processing department. Familiarity with electronic tracking systems for instrument sterilization and inventory management. Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare teams. Additional training in healthcare safety standards and quality assurance.
Responsibilities:
Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment following established protocols and safety standards. Inspect instruments and equipment for functionality and cleanliness, ensuring all items meet quality control requirements before use. Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes, including documentation of sterilizer loads, maintenance, and quality assurance checks. Manage inventory of sterile supplies and equipment, coordinating with clinical staff to ensure timely availability for procedures. Adhere to infection control policies and safety regulations to minimize risk of contamination and maintain a safe working environment.
