POSITION PURPOSE
Under the general supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant will perform certain clinical duties. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs, administering medications, and direct care duties as needed and in accordance with established policies and procedures. The MA will complete a training program as directed by the MA Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
CLINICAL:
Room patients which includes obtaining vital signs, verifying medications (medication reconciliation), medical history, and obtaining other pertinent information. Assist physicians and nurses as needed. Perform EKG's. Perform peak flows/spirometry. Administer O2 as directed by provider. Administer respiratory treatments as directed by provider. Perform in-office labs and UDS. Perform routine prescription refills under the supervision of the MA Lead. Enter orders for medication and labs as directed by provider. Scrub charts/huddle with provider and team daily. Perform normal lab call backs. Blood draws, if competency has been signed off. Injections and immunization administration. Assist with procedures. Non-complicated wound care. Suture/staple removal AFTER seen by provider. Stock and clean rooms. Packaging instruments for the Autoclave. Schedule patients for follow-up per provider. Assist team with desktop items. Answer telephone calls. Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures). Additional duties as needed.
NON-CLINICAL
Expected to be prepared to begin each shift at the scheduled time, meet attendance standards and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the jobs Conform to safety work ethics, be flexible and show dedication to the position and community Demonstrate a positive attitude, is respectful and possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity with all clients, co-workers, and others. Demonstrate a keen understanding of HIPAA regulations and uphold the confidentiality of patient information at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS
Incumbents are required to have demonstrated basic knowledge and abilities in the following areas: High school graduate or equivalent education. Minimum 1-year experience in Hospital or Clinical setting The ability to obtain National Certification within two years of date of hire with Aviva Health. Current BLS certification (maintaining current certification is required for continued employment Aviva Health). Proven leadership experience Ability to work independently, detail oriented, organized, work effectively under pressure, and meet deadlines. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Demonstrated knowledge of office procedures, patient flow, triage and scheduling. Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word and writing clearly and concisely. Ability to follow verbal and written directions. Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions and deliver upon expectations. Have an understanding of basic medical terminology. These skills and abilities are typically required through a combination of experience and training.
