Job Description

Medical Assistant Responsibilities Escort patients from the waiting area to the appropriate examination room. Obtain and document vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse. Collect and update patient information, including medical history, social history, medications, allergies, tobacco use, alcohol use, occupation, living arrangements, and chief complaints, within the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Serve as a chaperone during patient examinations as needed. Provide appropriate patient education/prep instructions for procedures. Obtain insurance prior authorizations for prescribed medications. Triage incoming patient phone calls by gathering symptom information, reviewing medications, and communicating pertinent details to providers for assessment and follow-up. Perform Open Access screening colonoscopy assessments by gathering and reviewing patient medical history, medications, and risk factors; identifying potential contraindications; providing patient education; and coordinating scheduling in accordance with provider guidelines and practice protocols. Obtain and review medical records for new patients. Clean and prepare examination rooms between patient visits. Cross-train and assist with patient check-in and check-out functions as needed. Occasionally float between front office and clinical areas to support daily operations and maintain efficient patient flow. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical procedures. Proficiency in medication administration and basic life support (BLS) techniques. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a healthcare environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on patient care and customer service. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.
