SVEC is conveniently located in Squirrel Hill near the Homestead Gray's Bridge. We're looking for a friendly team member that understands the environment and pace of an urgent care.
Job Summary:
Assists providers in the examination and treatment of patients following established standards and practices, as directed by the physician leader. Medical Assistant experience is a must. Computer literacy for using EMR, PACs and Quest 360 is an essential job function. Please do not apply if you lack M.A. experience and computer literacy. Primary Job Duties:
• Explain procedures to patient and/or family, prepare room, equipment, and materials as needed. Assist in physical exams, assist in treatment of patients by giving injections, changing dressings, or removing sutures under physician or nurse practitioner direction. Phlebotomy experience preferred but not necessary. Document patient chart with procedures performed. Clean and disinfect x‐ray room and equipment, maintain and order x‐ray supplies. Perform all functions of a medical assistant and assist front‐end registration staff or perform additional clerical duties as necessary. Obtain patient history; assess/triage patient, measure vital signs, and record information on chart. Explain treatment procedures and prepare patient and exam room for examination. Position instruments and equipment and hand to physician as directed. Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use. Administer injections, medications, eye and ear irrigations and enemas, dress/bandage wound and incisions, draw blood, and assist physician with any procedures. Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiograph, automatic external defibrillator, oxygen equipment, pulse ox, peak flow and inhalation treatment equipment. Perform CLIA-waived lab tests, draw blood and collect, label and process specimens for send-out. Perform both DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screens, using proper chain of custody; ensure preparation for pick-up and shipment to appropriate laboratory. • Perform dosage calculations for administering medications. Remove sutures/staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings. Complete medical chart to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used. Perform patient call backs, arrange referrals and testing, and schedule follow-up appointments. Monitor inventory and place orders for medical supplies and pharmaceuticals. • Perform quality checks on medical equipment. Assist registration staff and perform additional clerical duties as necessary.
Job Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to accurately read and write medical terminology. BLS certification. Ability to escort or transport patient by wheelchair or stretcher when appropriate. Ability to work all shifts including day, night, and weekend hours as needed. Basic computer skills including familiarity with electronic medical records. Types 25 words per minute with 96% accuracy. Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal communication skills. Experience working in an urgent care is a plus but not required.
