GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

: As a Gap Year Medical Assistant, you will have the opportunity to: Learn about general, surgical, and non-operative orthopedic procedures within many subdisciplines of orthopedic surgery. Obtain valuable patient care that is transferrable to any specialty. Receive mentorship from practicing Orthopedics surgeons and Orthopedic Physician Assistants Collaborate with other Gap Interns as a Gap Year Medical Assistant, you can expect to: Assist physicians with verifying patient information, reviewing and recording medical history, and confirming purpose of the visit. Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; authorizing drug refills as directed; preparing patients for x-rays; removing sutures; removing staples; changing dressings; and wound care. Monitor patient s environmental safety (e.g., fall precautions faulty equipment, transmission precautions). Provide patient education and post-operative care instructions May be asked to apply Durable Medical Equipment as needed Must be able to work closely with the casting/splinting of acute fracture care Ability to identify abnormal patient values for triages purposes. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential. Document medical information using approved medical terminology in the Electronic Medical Record (EHR) system. Work as part of a team within the practice

Requirements:

• Completion of a four-year undergraduate degree
• Successful completion of at least six of the following courses: Biology, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Exercise Physiology, Genetics, Psychology
• Current CPR Certification
• Professional, pleasant, cheerful, enthusiastic demeanor, neat appearance required
• Attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal skills including telephone etiquette
• Motivated individual with team approach
• Clinical skills, documentation skills, and communication skills
• Ability to perform various clinical procedures while in exam room
• Computer skill proficiency in EHR, Microsoft word and outlook
• Must be able to travel to all sites if/when necessary. Preferred Qualification
• CNA or CMA Certified
