Spartanburg, SC Support clinical care in the role of certified medical assistant within defined protocols and tasks for patients at USC Upstate Health Services. Provide vitals signs, medication and allergy review, vision screening, lab specimen collection and processing, phlebotomy. Provides provider visit support including but not limited to patient intake and screenings within MA scope of practice. Obtain patient data such as vital signs, health history, chief complaint, routine medications, drug and other noted allergies. Perform vision and other screenings in accordance with training and office protocols. Serves as chaperone and assists with gynecology exams and procedures. Educates patient on specimen collection process and performs lab procedures including lab specimen collection and processing, Collects and processes blood, urine and other specimen types, proper labeling and handling of patient specimens, performing waived laboratory tests. Supports lab inventory and maintaining adequate and safe supplies. Maintain medication and clinical supply stock in accordance with pharmacy, lab and state health regulations. Maintain adequate stock of clinical supplies in exam rooms. Store, document and communicate needs for pharmacy and lab items to area supervisor in accordance with clinic procedures and State Health Regulations. Clean and sterilize instruments using autoclave in accordance with clinical procedures and maintain instruments. Assist with individual follow-up, care coordination, medication refills, and other patient needs. Support Health Services' response to campus medical incidents and infectious disease outbreaks. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Position Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Requires current Certified Medical Assistant ( CMA ) certification, 2 years experience working as a medical assistant in a hospital or ambulatory care setting, and electronic medical records experience. A successful background check is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
BLS CPR Certification, phlebotomy and outbound lab preparation, in house specimen collection and POC Lab Testing, Instrument Sterilization/Autoclave.

Current licensure or certification in the specific field. Interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to assess, identify, and address individual needs. Knowledge of or the ability to learn medical terminology, use medical equipment and follow clinical orders. Possess clinical skills necessary to treat patients of all ages. Ability to problem solve.
