Job Description

Job Requirements Position Summary A Laboratory Assistant Non-Technical registers patients/specimens by validating and keying correct demographic and billing information and performs compliant order verification. Orders lab procedures in the LIS. Accessions and processes all types of patient specimens in preparation for testing in the various sections of the laboratory. A Laboratory Assistant Non-Technical must follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures. Understands and complies with the Behavior Standards and department policies, procedures and regulations. Minimum Requirements Education High School Graduate or Equivalent Experience Intermediate level of computer knowledge and experience License/Registration/Certifications N/A Preferred Requirements Preferred Education N/A Preferred Experience Prior laboratory experience or hospital registration experience Knowledge of ICD-10 coding Knowledge of insurance Preferred License/Registration/Certifications N/A Core Job Responsibilities Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. Must be able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position while responding calmly and efficiently in crisis situations. Must be able to work as a team member, demonstrating good interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate professionally with physicians, management and staff. Must be able to make decisions and use appropriate judgment. Registration of patients/specimens following all procedures as outlined. Receive, accession, and process all types of inpatient and outpatient specimens. Must be able to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients, families, and visitors ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric.
