The position suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, communicates professionally with patients and colleagues, and brings a calm, positive presence to a team that is working toward greater stability. This opportunity also offers the potential for long-term growth if the role transitions to a permanent position. Responsibilities Answer incoming phone calls promptly and professionally, providing accurate information and directing calls to the appropriate staff. Perform patient check-in and check-out, ensuring all required forms are completed and demographic, insurance, and contact information is accurate and up to date. Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to visits, including confirming eligibility and documenting verification details in the electronic health record. Manage appointment scheduling, including new patient appointments, follow-up visits, and procedure scheduling, using the practice's electronic health record system. Maintain and update patient charts accurately, ensuring documentation is complete, organized, and compliant with clinic standards. Use the electronic health record system (including Athena) to document patient information, schedule appointments, and manage workflow. Provide front desk support as the primary responsibility, and assist in the back office on a very limited and rare basis when needed. Deliver professional and courteous patient service, including greeting patients, answering questions, and helping them navigate their visit. Collaborate with the provider and clinic staff to support efficient clinic operations in a fast-paced environment. Receive and respond constructively to feedback and direction from leadership and colleagues, adjusting work practices as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality and follow all clinic policies and procedures related to privacy, safety, and quality of care. Support a positive and stable clinic culture by demonstrating patience, composure, and a solutions-focused attitude in a setting that has experienced interpersonal challenges. Essential Skills Verified high school diploma or GED. Active BLS/CPR certification. Experience working in a fast-paced healthcare or clinical environment. Hands-on experience as a medical assistant or in medical assisting functions. Comfort working in a colon and rectal specialty clinic and with related patient needs. Proficiency with electronic health records, including required experience with Athena. Demonstrated experience with insurance verification and prior authorization processes. Strong appointment scheduling skills and familiarity with healthcare workflows. Professional verbal and written communication skills when interacting with patients, providers, and staff. Computer proficiency and the ability to navigate multiple systems efficiently. Ability to accept and apply feedback and direction in a constructive manner. Basic patient care knowledge appropriate to a medical assistant role. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a small clinic setting supporting a single provider is beneficial. Demonstrated ability to remain calm, composed, and solutions-oriented in challenging interpersonal situations. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and chart management. A positive, team-focused attitude and a desire to contribute to a more stable, collaborative clinic environment. Interest in long-term career growth opportunities within a healthcare setting if the role transitions to permanent employment. Work Environment This role is based in a small clinic that supports a single provider specializing in colon and rectal care. The clinic uses electronic health records with Athena as a core system, and the work involves extensive computer use for scheduling, charting, and insurance processes.
