Job Description
Medical Assistant — Richmond Integrative & Functional Medicine $46,000-$50,000 Monday-Friday Midlothian, Virginia RIFM is a functional medicine practice in Midlothian, and we work differently from most clinics. Our patients are members, our visits are longer (30 to 90 minutes), and we see fewer patients a day — so instead of meeting a new face every few minutes, you get to know them over time. We're a small team — about 10 people — and we've been voted Richmond's #1 functional medicine practice three years in a row. Two of our providers started here as patients before they joined the team. We're hiring one or two Medical Assistants to work with our providers and clinical staff. We'd like to fill the role this summer; the start date is flexible. What you'll do Room patients and take vitals. Get each exam room ready before the visit, including the specific labs and supplements that the patient is coming in for. Read the intake ahead of time and flag anything the provider should know, for example, when a symptom started, or a supplement the patient is taking that isn't in the chart yet. Document carefully in our electronic health record (Elation). Help schedule and coordinate follow-up visits after the provider has reviewed results and set the plan. Catch things before they slip, like a follow-up visit that was supposed to be booked and wasn't. One thing to be clear about: at RIFM, providers review all lab results and decide what to share with the patient. Your job is to make sure results reach the provider and that follow-ups happen. The provider handles interpreting results and talking with patients about them. What we're looking for Careful and organized. You notice details and follow through. Warm with patients, and steady when a visit runs long or someone is anxious. A good communicator who speaks up using the chain of command. If something is wrong or about to be missed, you say so instead of letting it slide. Healthcare experience is helpful, and CMA certification is a plus — but neither is required. You don't do drama, and neither do we! We take our team culture very seriously and have a firm "no-drama" policy in the office. Functional medicine here means more detailed intakes, more specialized labs, and supplement protocols you won't see at a typical clinic. There's real skill to learn, and we'll teach you. Pay and schedule $46,000-$50,000 a year, depending on experience and certification. Monday-Friday. No weekends, no on-call. On-site in Midlothian, Virginia.
