SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The float LPN/Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting Providers (Physicians and Nurse Practitioners) with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services. Conveys a positive image of the practice, serving as the go-between of the Provider(s) and the patient(s) and ensuring a superior patient experience. When unassigned to coverage, they will serve as the primary Triage coverage for the day.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history into the EMR system ; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurse practitioners with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms. Prepares patients for CT scan and maintains machine daily to include pushing images, burning discs, and sending the appropriate paperwork to Radiology Associates. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors quickly. Maintains CPR and other pertinent certifications. Attending required department and company staff meetings. All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS A
high school diploma; course in medical specialty, e.g., Medical Assisting. Current LPN or Medical Assisting Licensure/Certification. Minimum of one year's work experience in a public contact job, preferably medically related. Basic Computer knowledge/experience preferred. Experience with Allscripts, electronic medical records, and electronic mail would be helpful
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to clinic setting. Must be able to travel between VA ENT offices as needed.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching 6-8 hours of the day. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc.
