JOB STATUS REPORTS TO
Nurse Manager Position Overview Performs the following in an accurate, timely manner: manages the patient flow; assists with patient care; and, supports physician needs. Demonstrates effective customer service skills and a professional manner. Adheres to practice mission and values and applicable regulations. The MA exhibits initiative is compatible and supportive; and displays team cohesiveness Job Duties 1) Assists Physician with patient office visits which include, rooming patients, scribes notes for Physician and interviews patients. Records vital signs including pulse rate, blood pressure, height and weight if needed. Prepare specimens for lab work, obtain consents and enter all medical history in patient electronic medical record. 2) Prepares, cleans and stocks examination rooms including patient information handouts. 3) Handles all aspects of surgical assisting from set up to clean up. 4) Stocks all necessary supplies, instruments and forms in each examination room. 5) Schedules appointments for patients with other specialists for surgeries and consultations according to applicable procedures. 6) Obtains pre-authorizations and referrals as needed 7) Follows daily procedure for filling and emptying cryotherapy tanks from/to main liquid nitrogen tanks. 8) Monitors supply, instrument, form and educational literature levels and addresses ordering needs according to the then-current procedure. 9) Strictly adheres to the current procedure for processing and tracking pathological specimens and other diagnostic testing. 10) Manages all aspects of biohazard needs from packaging materials to stocking exam rooms with bags according to OSHA standards. 11) Manages fungal cultures according to current protocol. 12) Oversees sterilization of instruments and maintenance of the autoclave. 13) Takes messages from callers and the nursing line, following appropriate procedures for processing them. 14) Supports light treatment patients' phototherapy according to current protocol. 15) Supports Accutane patients according to current protocol. 16) Oversees the inventory of the practice's prescription drug samples and maintenance of the storage closet. 17) Reports, in a timely manner, to the practice administrator or designee, if having difficulty in performing these duties as described. 18) Adheres to all Commonwealth Dermatology policies and procedures and applicable regulations in performing these duties. 19) Functions as an effective team member. 20) Attends staff meetings. 21) Consistently demonstrates a commitment to effective customer service, the practice's mission and values, and a professional manner. 22) Answers phones, takes messages and troubleshoots patient calls 23) Performs other duties as needed and/or requested. Associated Requirements The following requirements are essential to this position: High school diploma or GED Completed a course of study and received a Va. State license for practical nurses. Completed a MA course of study and received a certificate and/or has adequate on the job training to function in such a capacity. One to two years experience in a medical setting, physician practice preferred. Experience working with a practice management system Knowledge of business office procedures and billing office functions Working knowledge of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar Knowledge of principles for providing customer service Ability to operate computers, other office equipment including photocopier and printer, and medical equipment including a sterilizer. Working knowledge of OSHA standards for laboratories and medical practice Ability to handle the following physical requirements: stooping, bending and stretching helping physicians with patients and retrieving files and supplies; ability to constrain a patient (child) when needed so that a procedure can be performed; manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, ability to work in a high volume practice with many interruptions; ability to work under pressure; occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.'
