Job Title:
Certified Medical Assistant Job Description This role provides compassionate clinical and administrative support in a setting focusing on women's health, obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive medicine, and fertility. The Certified or Registered Medical Assistant greets and rooms patients, supports providers with patient intake and documentation, and ensures accurate and timely entry of information into the electronic health record. The position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage a steady patient flow, and the resilience to work in a high-pressure clinic where outcomes may sometimes be difficult. Responsibilities Greet patients in a courteous and professional manner and escort them to examination rooms. Conduct patient intake, including verifying information, obtaining basic histories, and preparing patients for providers in a women's health setting. Document patient information accurately and completely in the electronic health record (EPIC). Stock examination rooms and triage areas with appropriate medical supplies, ensuring rooms remain clean, organized, and ready for use. Monitor inventory levels, perform supply inventories, and reorder medical supplies as needed to maintain adequate stock. Schedule patient appointments with providers, including initial visits, follow-up visits, and residents' clinics where appropriate. Call patients to remind and confirm upcoming appointments and assist with rescheduling as needed, including patients on the bump list. Prepare patient charts for the next day, including creating new patient charts, filing and pulling charts, and ensuring all necessary documentation is present. Check charts for required referrals and authorizations prior to patient visits to support smooth clinic operations. Prepare charge tickets and related documentation to support accurate billing and visit documentation. Collaborate with other medical assistants and providers to manage patient flow, typically supporting 16 patients in the morning and 15 in the afternoon. Assist in a multi-provider environment, working with 3 to 5 providers and another medical assistant to coordinate daily schedules and patient care. Handle higher-pressure situations in an clinic, maintaining professionalism and composure when patient outcomes may not be positive. Perform other related duties as assigned to support clinic operations and patient care. Essential Skills Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential. Ideally 1+ years of experience in women's health, including areas such as obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive medicine, or fertility. Proficiency with electronic medical records, specifically EPIC. Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn and navigate clinical software systems. Ability to accurately document patient information in an electronic health record. Experience performing patient intake and supporting clinical workflows in an outpatient setting. Capacity to handle higher-pressure situations in a clinic, including managing emotionally challenging scenarios. Excellent interpersonal skills with an outgoing and friendly demeanor when interacting with patients, families, and staff. Strong organizational skills to manage chart preparation, scheduling, and supply inventory. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to coordinate with providers, staff, and patients. Additional Skills & Qualifications 1+ years of women's health experience preferred. CPR certification preferred. Experience in OB/GYN, reproductive medicine, or fertility clinics is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple providers and another medical assistant in a busy clinic. Comfort working with patients and families in sensitive and sometimes emotionally challenging situations. Strong attention to detail in preparing charts, verifying referrals and authorizations, and managing charge tickets. Customer service orientation with a focus on providing compassionate, patient-centered care. Work Environment This position is based in a busy clinic that focuses on women's health, OB/GYN, reproductive medicine, and fertility. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role may require occasional travel, typically less than once per week. Patient volume is steady, with an average flow of approximately 16 patients in the morning and 15 patients in the afternoon, supporting 3 to 5 providers and working alongside another medical assistant. The clinic uses EPIC as its electronic medical record system and relies on a variety of standard medical supplies and equipment in exam rooms and triage areas. Team members wear scrubs, and the dress code requires conservative, solid-color scrubs. The team works collaboratively to provide supportive, compassionate care. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
