Job Summary Responsible to deliver orientation and training for the Medical Assistant-Registered position in both classroom and clinic settings, partnering with the clinical education team. Key stakeholder in the ongoing development of medical assisting training and professional development programs. This position may be required to travel between clinic sites/locations. Essential Functions Demonstrated proficiency in basic medical assisting skills as defined in the Washington State Medical Assisting, Certified scope of practice. Ability to speak in front of various group sizes and facilitate meetings. Assist with new employee clinical orientation and departmental training, often as lead trainer. Exercises discretion and judgment to validate competency and determine further training needs. Deliver on the job training to the Medical Assistant- Registered, focused on safe quality care. Lead and or actively participate in system or department in-services and training sessions. Demonstrates understand of adult learning and various learning styles. Support evidenced based practice and change initiatives. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality and Process Improvement activities. Make recommendations for clinic workflow process towards standardization when possible. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Maintain current licensure and/or certification as required. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Demonstrated compliance with SRH Service Standards and Code of Conduct. Perform other duties as assigned by Director or designee. Serves as instructor and resource, communicating at the end user level of understanding. Provides initial and ongoing training; updates procedures; and serves as a resource. Serves as subject matter expert (SME) on various committees and or workgroups. Creates training documents and materials, partnering with other SME as appropriate. Reviews workflows and provides input to create standard workflow whenever possible. Maintains regular involvement and visibility in clinic departments to support SME status. Develops/maintains a thorough knowledge of the medical assistant workflows in the clinic(s). Provides appropriate feedback to learners including both successful demonstration of competency and areas for improvement. Mentors medical assistants to acquire new skills, develop their careers and effectively incorporate evidence into practice. Demonstrates positive attitude, initiative, and teamwork. Ability to actively lead and contribute within a team-focused environment. Ability to identify and solve problems creatively. Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced, demanding and dynamic environment within deadlines with a high attention to detail. Ability to coordinate and flex work schedule with requirements of position and student needs. Participates in needs identification, selection and evaluation of products and equipment. Participates in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of education events, skills fairs, regulatory reviews, and conferences. Participates in the collection of data for program design and outcome measurement. Contribute to achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Provides feedback to leaders regarding staff performance. Adheres to all SRH and departmental policies and procedures. Education Associates degree or Applied Science degree in healthcare related field preferred; however consideration will be given to prior experience in medical assisting profession. Experience/Training 3 years of Medical Assisting experience required. Previous experience in teaching, training, education, or lead role required. License/Certifications Current Washington State Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C) is required. National Certification from American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Health Career Association or National Center for Competency Testing is required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare provider BLS required. AHA Healthcare provider BLS Instructor preferred. Other Skills Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications and department specific software applications to perform work. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for long periods of time; when working in office. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems is a frequent function of the position. When training staff in the departments, the position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee may frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires working in an indoor, environmentally controlled environment when in the office.
