Job Description

Join a Team That Helps People Move Better, Feel Better, and Live Better Chippewa Valley Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is seeking a Clinical Assistant to join our growing physician support team. This position supports physicians by preparing patients for visits, assisting with clinical workflows, coordinating follow-up needs, and helping keep clinic operations running smoothly. This role plays an important part in helping providers deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care across our specialty practice. Certified Medical Assistants are preferred, but we also welcome qualified candidates with relevant clinical backgrounds, including Athletic Trainers, Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and others with transferable clinical experience. As a member of the care team, you will work alongside orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, pain management specialists, podiatrists, neurosurgeons, advanced practice providers, therapists, imaging staff, and other clinical professionals to help patients restore function, reduce pain, and return to the activities that matter most to them. The role works closely with the physician team to deliver safe, timely, and service-oriented care while performing duties consistent with the individual's credentials, training, and scope of practice. For day-to-day clinical direction and workflow expectations, this position reports directly to the physician whose team the employee supports. What You'll Do Support patient care and clinic flow by preparing patients for visits, obtaining and documenting appropriate clinical information, and ensuring relevant records, imaging, or outside documentation are available for review. Assist providers with exams, treatments, injections, casting, splinting, suture removal, and other in-clinic procedures consistent with your credentials, training, and scope of practice. Provide patient instruction related to home care, follow-up needs, pre-visit and post-visit guidance, and other provider-directed education appropriate to your role. Document care, communications, and clinical support activities accurately and timely in the electronic medical record and other required systems. Coordinate patient calls, relay messages, support prescription and pharmacy-related tasks, and communicate follow-up instructions consistent with provider orders and organizational protocols. Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, surgery scheduling, radiology, and other staff to support efficient, coordinated patient care. Help maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, supplies, and clinical equipment to support safe, efficient, and patient-centered operations. Adjust daily responsibilities based on clinic needs, physician preference, patient volume, and your credentials and demonstrated competencies. Why CVOSM? Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent required. One or more years of direct patient care experience required, with a minimum of 1,000 hours. Completion of a relevant clinical education or training program, or current clinical licensure, certification, registration, or credentialing applicable to the individual's role. Ability to maintain any required licensure, registration, certification, or credentialing for the position. Strong communication, interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle protected health information appropriately. Ability to prioritize, multitask, and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment. Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn electronic medical record and other practice systems. Preferred Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential preferred. Candidates with relevant clinical backgrounds will also be considered, including Athletic Trainers, Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and other clinical professionals with transferable outpatient or orthopedic support experience. One or more years of direct patient care in orthopedic, neurosurgical, pain management, sports medicine, ambulatory, procedural, or related clinical experience preferred. Schedule Full-Time, Non-Exempt Some flexibility in scheduling may be available based on clinic needs, provider coverage, and staffing requirements.
Locations:
CVOSM Clinics - Altoona, Chippewa Falls, and Rice Lake, Wisconsin Additional travel to outreach locations in the region based on the physician.
