Job Description

Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time Nephrology Clinic Assistant to work alongside our Nephrology Clinic. The Nephrology Clinic Assistant is responsible for patient care under the direction of the Nephrologists or other licensed health care provider. The Nephrology Clinic Assistant assists the Nephrologists by performing preliminary and follow-up tasks prior to and after the patient clinic visit. The Nephrology Clinic Assistant reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition as well as recognizes and responds appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol. The Nephrology Clinic Assistant maintains professional appearance and personal conduct at all times and establishes effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and management. The Nephrology Clinic Assistant demonstrates a positive attitude, sense of responsibility for responding and communicating, initiative, honesty, and ability to follow directions accurately. High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program required. Medical Assistant Certification required. AHA BLS required. 2 years of Position-Related Experience required. The kind of position-related experience includes:
  • A minimum of two years within the last three years experience in a busy physician office is required.
  • Must be able to assist professionals in the delivery of patient care and treatment to the chronic kidney disease patient.
  • Experienced in examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
  • Able to perform specialty skills such as venipuncture; straight catheterization, suture removal, sterile dressing changes, EKG's, and injections(IM, Subq and intradermal) in accordance established clinical protocol.
  • Experience in performing Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Waved tests such as urine dip stick, glucose, and hemoccults.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer and able to retrieve patient data.
  • Must be able to screen and route patient calls efficiently ensuring accurate transferring, messaging, and physician contact.
