Duties Review and analyze surgical documentation, operative reports, and medical records to assign appropriate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes for procedures performed. Apply DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications accurately for hospital billing purposes. Utilize ICD-9 and ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) coding systems to identify diagnoses, ensuring compliance with current standards. Ensure all medical coding aligns with established guidelines, including ICD coding updates and modifiers. Collaborate with medical billing teams to facilitate seamless claim submission and resolve coding discrepancies or denials. Maintain thorough documentation of coded records within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for audit readiness. Stay current with evolving coding regulations, industry best practices, and payer requirements to optimize reimbursement processes. Experience & Qualifications Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) required Minimum 5+ years of surgical or ASC coding experience preferred Experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) setting Knowledge of GI, or general surgery coding Strong knowledge of

DRG, CPT

coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and general ICD coding principles. Familiarity with medical billing processes and medical collection procedures. Prior experience working with EMR/EHR systems used in healthcare facilities. Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures. Demonstrated ability to interpret complex medical records and translate them into accurate codes. Knowledge of healthcare compliance standards and documentation requirements is highly desirable.
