Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Ophthalmic Billing and Coder, where your expertise will drive accurate medical billing processes and ensure seamless reimbursement for ophthalmology services. In this vital role, you will leverage your knowledge of ophthalmic procedures, coding systems, and medical record management to optimize revenue cycle operations. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will contribute to a positive patient experience and efficient office workflow. Responsibilities Accurately assign DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to ophthalmic diagnoses and procedures Review medical records thoroughly to ensure proper documentation aligns with billing requirements Prepare and submit claims using EMR (Electronic Medical Record) and EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems, ensuring compliance with insurance guidelines Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies Collaborate with ophthalmologists and administrative staff to clarify documentation discrepancies and improve coding accuracy Maintain detailed records of billing activities, coding updates, and claim statuses for audit readiness Stay current with evolving medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations affecting ophthalmic billing practices Experience Proven experience in medical billing and coding within an ophthalmology practice preferred but not required for ophthalmology specifically. Strong knowledge of ophthalmic-specific coding including CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems Familiarity with medical terminology related to eye care procedures and diagnoses Hands-on experience working with EMR/EHR systems in a healthcare setting Understanding of medical records management and documentation standards for billing purposes Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical information accurately Prior experience in medical collection processes and insurance claim follow-up is advantageous Join us in delivering exceptional ophthalmic care by ensuring precise billing practices that support our mission of improving patient outcomes.
