Job Description

Medix is hiring on behalf of a respected community hospital for an experienced Outpatient Medical Coding Specialist to join their growing revenue cycle team. This is a fully remote opportunity for candidates based in Texas. Compensation $25-29/hour based on experience and qualifications Schedule Full-Time Training schedule begins at 8:00 AM CST Flexible "flex schedule" available once fully trained and independent Position Overview This role is responsible for reviewing, prioritizing, abstracting, and coding outpatient medical records using
ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT
codes, and applicable modifiers. The Coding Specialist will support quality assurance initiatives, utilization review functions, and accurate revenue cycle processes across a multi-specialty environment. Responsibilities Accurately code outpatient encounters using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and modifiers Review and prioritize patient charts while meeting productivity and quality standards Abstract clinical and demographic data from medical records Support quality assurance and utilization review activities Identify documentation improvement opportunities and communicate coding trends when needed Maintain accurate coding practices that support compliant revenue cycle operations Work independently while managing multiple tasks in a remote environment Required Qualifications 4+ years of outpatient coding experience Active coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, etc.) Experience with: Same-day surgeries Injections Observation encounters Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy Experience with insurance processes and data entry Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Experience working within physician EMR systems Ability to work independently in a remote setting Preferred Qualifications Experience with Meditech Expanse and 3M systems Interventional Radiology (IR) coding experience is a strong plus Performance Expectations Productivity goal: 4-6 charts per hour Quality goal: 95% coding accuracy or higher Training & Onboarding Initial onboarding includes collaborative training sessions with leadership Daily touchpoints during the first week to support internal workflow training and system navigation Position open due to retirement of a long-term internal employee
