Outpatient Medical Coder II 100% Remote Full-Time
DUAL CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Are you a certified coding professional with at least four (4) years of outpatient medical coding experience? Do you have experience with medical coding for the Department of Defense (DoD) or desire to provide medical coding for the DoD? We are looking for Full-Time Outpatient Medical Coders II to join us in our mission supporting the Defense Health Agency (DHA).   • Accurately assign International Classification of Diseases Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) diagnoses, Evaluation and Management (E&M), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes, including utilization of modifiers and units of service, based on medical record documentation for the professional and institutional (facility) components of same day surgery, emergency department, observation, outpatient primary care, and/or specialty clinics encounters.
Documentation Review
  • Identify and resolve inconsistencies, ambiguities, or discrepancies that may lead to inaccurate coding or affect quality patient care. System Utilization
  • Utilize THE Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS systems to remotely access patient records and assign codes for patient encounters. Productivity and Quality Standards
  • Achieve and maintain hourly coding productivity and 97% accuracy standards for the position. Education

Associate's degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a biological science, OR University certificate in medical coding, OR Completion of an American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) coding certification preparation course for professional services or facility coding that includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, health information management concepts, and pharmacology, OR At least 30 semester hours' university/college credit that includes relevant coursework such as anatomy/physiology, medical terminology, health information management, and/or pharmacology Certifications
  • One (1) professional AND one (1) institutional certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and/or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The RHIA and RHIT from AHIMA qualify as either professional or institutional certifications. Professional Coding Certifications Certified Professional Coder (CPC), AAPC Certified Coding Specialist
  • Physician (CCS-P), AHIMA Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), AHIMA Institutional Coding Certifications Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), AAPC Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), AHIMA Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), AHIMA Experience Minimum of four (4) years of experience coding and/or auditing in two (2) or more medical, surgical, and ancillary specialties within the past 10 years (required); OR Minimum of two (2) years of experience if that experience was in support of a military treatment facility Experience coding and/or auditing same day surgery, emergency department, observation, and/or outpatient specialty clinics (preferred) DoD or Veterans Administration medical coding experience (preferred)
