Orthopedic Professional & Facility Coding Location:
Dallas, TX 75219 (primarily remote; must be local to DFW for onsite meetings as needed)

Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM•5:00
PM Pay Range:
$30•62/hour DOE We are seeking an experienced Coding Manager to lead both Hospital and Physician Practice Coding operations for a growing healthcare organization. This role will oversee a team of approximately 10-11 coders while driving coding quality, compliance, productivity, and physician education initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong orthopedic professional coding experience, leadership expertise, and the confidence to collaborate directly with physicians on documentation and coding best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage daily operations of Hospital and Physician Practice Coding departments to ensure workflow efficiency and data integrity. Supervise, mentor, and support a team of 10-11 coders, including performance management, training, and workflow oversight. Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff regarding coding and documentation guidelines and provide education as needed. Research coding questions, provide coder feedback, and ensure timely correction of coding edits and errors. Monitor coding quality, productivity, aging, and DNB accounts to ensure benchmarks are met. Conduct and oversee coding audits, review audit reports, and implement corrective action plans. Analyze coding/documentation trends and identify opportunities for process improvement. Review coding-related denials and rejections and implement solutions to reduce recurring issues. Maintain coding resources and educate staff on ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT updates. Develop and maintain coding policies, procedures, and compliance standards. Communicate regularly with leadership regarding coding operations and unbilled account activity. Apply critical thinking and change management strategies to resolve operational and documentation challenges.
Required Qualifications:
3+ years of coding management experience. 3+ years of orthopedic professional fee (Profee) coding experience.
Active certification required:
RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC. Associate degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, related healthcare field, or equivalent leadership experience.
Strong knowledge of:
ICD-10-CM/PCS
CPT and E/M coding MS-DRG and APC reimbursement methodologies Clinical documentation improvement (CDI) Acute care hospital and physician practice coding/billing workflows Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate and build rapport with physicians, including difficult personalities. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with 3M Encoder and Epic. Facility coding experience strongly preferred. This position is ideal for a hands-on coding leader who enjoys mentoring teams, improving coding operations, and partnering directly with physicians to enhance documentation accuracy and compliance. Candidates should be comfortable leading change initiatives, addressing performance concerns, and navigating complex coding scenarios in both hospital and physician practice environments.
