Regional Medical DirectorJob Summary The Regional Medical Director is responsible for the strategic coordination, value-based care outcomes, and oversight of all medical care and quality of services provided across multiple clinical centers within the assigned region. This position serves as a member of the Administrative Management Staff and will collaborate with the CMO and Executive Leadership on the development of services, population health program plans, as well as delivery sites and hours of operation to be offered. They ensure proper functioning of day-to-day operations across all regional centers, in coordination with local medical directors and center staff, to provide consistent, high-quality, cost-effective care to patients. This role may also provide delivery of direct medical services to patients of the Center. Clinical Leadership & Value-Based Care Provides leadership for a number of activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services such as cost management, utilization review, risk-adjustment (RAF) accuracy, and quality assurance. Drives regional performance in value-based care metrics, including HEDIS, MIPS, and shared-savings targets, to optimize patient outcomes and regional financial performance. Collaborates in the development and periodic review of written clinical policies, guidelines, and protocols for the functioning of the various clinics and responsibilities of the clinicians. Works closely with managed care organizations and insurance plans to meet defined clinical, quality, and utilization goals. Leads the development and implementation of disease management programs and supervises accurate risk coding/documentation practices. Assumes responsibility for the quality of medical services rendered to patients by monitoring clinical outcomes and appropriateness of care across all regional sites. Provides key input to the development of care delivery policies and procedures that support a transition from volume to value. Oversees clinical documentation, risk adjustment insights, and care planning. Multi-Center Operations & Financial Stewardship Standardizes clinical workflows and best practices across multiple assigned centers to ensure clinical equity and consistency in patient care. Collaborates with the management team in ensuring the financial viability of the organization through the oversight of provider productivity; development of the annual budget; maintaining thorough evaluation of clinic goals and budgets; and participation as a member of the administrative management team. Develops and presents clinic and regional performance reports to Joint Venture leadership, focusing on both operational efficiency and value-based outcomes. Performs periodic review of practice management functions to identify operational bottlenecks across clinical sites. Maintains OSHA, ACHA, emergency preparedness, infection control, and regulatory compliance across all regional clinics. Staff Management & Development Participates in the recruitment and selection process for medical provider staff across the region. Plans, assigns, and directs work; assesses and appraises provider performance against both productivity and quality care benchmarks. Provides supervision of continuing professional education, in-service training, and orientation of new medical staff. Provides professional oversight for advanced practice nurses (ARNP) and/or physician assistants (PAs). Handles physician behavior and impairment issues. Analyzes, manages, and develops improvement plans for adverse events and patient complaints/issues arising from medical care. Assures a high standard of medical care by reviewing results of patient satisfaction surveys; reviews clinical patient complaints. Clinical Duties & Other May deliver direct patient care within the clinic scope of practice. Perform other duties as assigned by the executive team. Supervisory Responsibilities This position manages Local Medical Directors and clinical employees across the assigned regional department, and is responsible for the performance management, talent development, and hiring of staff within those centers. Provides professional oversight, mentorship, and clinical governance for advanced practice nurses (ARNP) and/or physician assistants (PAs) across all regional sites. Required Education MD or DO medical degree from an accredited school of medicine. Required Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical leadership, with a strong preference for multi-site, regional, or corporate Medical Director experience. Proven track record of managing clinical outcomes under value-based care models (e.g., Medicare Advantage, Risk-Bearing Contracts, ACOs, or Managed Care). 2 years of experience working with a multicultural patient population delivering patient-centered programs that are high quality and cost-effective. Required Licenses and Certifications Unrestricted physician medical license to practice medicine in the selected state. Board certified in one of the primary care specialties (Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine) Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated ability to analyze and leverage healthcare data (population health metrics, utilization rates, RAF scores) to drive operational improvements across multiple locations. Strong leadership capability with a focus on change management, clinical standardization, and aligning multi-site teams toward unified quality goals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with executive leadership, joint venture partners, and multi-disciplinary clinic staff.
