The Medical Director shall have sufficient time to perform clinical and administrative duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with the medical staff to ensure administration and delivery of high quality, medically appropriate care including care by subcontracted providers. Manage and supervise the Medical Department. Attend all required meetings. Ensure psychiatric oversight in emergency services and acute care services (admission and discharge decisions, level of care determinations, and direct supervision of care and denial of requested services based on medical necessity). Ensure psychiatric oversight in outpatient services through leadership and participation in regular interdisciplinary team case reviews. This will include review and signature of treatment plans and individual service plans discussed within the team that address the entire spectrum of the bio-psychosocial needs of members. Ensure psychiatric oversight in the coordination of care with primary-care physicians and other medical care delivery. Develop job descriptions for the provider psychiatrists and other medical personnel. Ensure adequacy of psychiatric staffing to meet member's needs and CHA's requirements. Recruit, retain, and supervise provider medical and psychiatric staff. Maintain direct involvement in the quality management and utilization management processes. Participate in the peer review process. In conjunction with Chief of Operations, develop and refine standards of practice for psychiatric services in each program or level of care, medical and psychiatric evaluation, treatment protocols, level of care criteria, admission and discharge criteria, and documentation standards for providers. Maintain direct involvement in the grievance and appeal process. Ensure the ongoing coordination of care for members while ensuring that patients are in the least restrictive environment clinically indicated. Provide in-service training for staff. Supervise and maintain the physician on-call schedule. Any other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
M.D. or D.O. degree with board eligibility/certification in general psychiatry and valid DEA certification. Completion of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship. Three (3) years of post-graduate experience in community child and adolescent psychiatry. Demonstrated ability in clinical practice and community psychiatry. Knowledge of various ethnic and socioeconomic populations. Demonstrated knowledge of community psychiatry and community mental health practices and procedures. Knowledge of adult, child, and adolescent practices. Knowledge of administrative and supervisory principles and practices. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Experience working within a managed care system preferred. Experience working within the Arizona RBHA system preferred. Competent computer skills using MS Office products, Word, Excel, Access and an Electronic Health Record. Must be at least 21 years of age and able to obtain a Class I Fingerprint Card.

Conditions and Equipment:
The Medical Director must also be able to meet the physical demands of the job, including spending significant periods of time on their feet and sitting, as well as being immersed in a potentially stressful environment. Ability to work in a fast paced and demanding environment. Equipment operation includes basic office equipment: computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, and printer.
