3 Years + 2 Optional 1-Year Extensions The Medical Director
  • EMS will serve as the primary medical authority for the City of Anaheim Fire & Rescue EMS system, providing comprehensive oversight across clinical operations, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and system-wide medical direction.
This role is critical in shaping EMS clinical strategy, ensuring high-quality patient care, and supporting innovative programs such as mobile integrated healthcare, opioid response, and disaster preparedness. Key Responsibilities Medical Direction & Clinical Leadership Provide overall medical oversight of EMS operations Advise Fire Chief and leadership on EMS system design and strategy Develop and maintain prehospital clinical protocols Conduct field visits, training, and clinical evaluations Supervise advanced providers (NPs, EMS units) Support EMS innovation programs and system improvements Quality Improvement & Compliance Lead Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives Conduct chart reviews and clinical audits Ensure compliance with EMS regulations and standards Investigate adverse events and implement corrective actions Controlled Substances & Equipment Oversight Oversee procurement and management of controlled substances Ensure regulatory compliance for medication handling Approve and evaluate EMS medical equipment Opioid & Public Health Programs Develop opioid response protocols Support Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) programs Ensure safeguards against drug diversion Special Programs & Innovation Provide oversight for: Advanced Provider Response Units Special event medical programs Disaster and pandemic response Support telemedicine and innovative EMS initiatives Training & Clinical Development Deliver EMS education and simulation training Conduct clinical case reviews and protocol updates Support continuing medical education (CME) Reporting & Documentation Prepare quality and performance reports Maintain compliance documentation and audit records Recommend system improvements and best practices Required Qualifications Medical Doctor (MD)
  • Required Active California Physician License
  • Required DEA License
  • Required Board Certified / Eligible in Emergency Medicine
  • Required EMS Board Certification
  • Required Valid California Driver's License Preferred Qualifications EMS Fellowship training Experience in EMS medical direction Disaster medicine / mass casualty experience Experience with public health systems Experience with Mobile Integrated Healthcare programs Fire service familiarity Required Skills Strong EMS clinical leadership Protocol development and system design expertise Quality improvement and regulatory compliance knowledge Training and mentoring capabilities Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration Analytical and decision-making skills
