Chief Medical OFfICER at the Whiting Forensic Hospital The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a dynamic clinician to be the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Whiting Forensic Hospital (WFH)in Middletown, CT. This nationally recognized forensic leadership role is offered in association with the Law & Psychiatry Division of the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, and a successful MD candidate may be appointed as either a State or Yale employee. The Organization The WFH is operated under the auspices of the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and is established to implement and coordinate specially-skilled inpatient evaluation and treatment services for individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders who become involved in the criminal justice system, and to serve the courts and other components of the criminal justice system. Our efforts are intended to promote recovery and prevent or limit criminal justice system involvement to the extent possible, to promote public safety, and to coordinate activities with other state and private agencies. The Hospital As the CMO of the Whiting Forensic Hospital you will oversee 11 treatment units with 229 secure beds.The clients are referred:
by the courts for evaluations, restoration of competence to stand trial and for treatment of insanity acquittees; by the Department of Correction for acute treatment; and from civil psychiatric hospitals for management of violence.Acceptable Credentials:
Licensed Psychiatrist with Board Certification in Forensic Psychiatry. The appropriate license to practice in Connecticut is necessary upon appointment. Preferred candidates will have significant experience in senior leadership within behavioral health care. A successful psychiatrist may meet academic criteria for full-time faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, with a primary service location at WFH. Academic rank would be dependent upon review of the candidate's academic achievements.
