Director Medical/Surgical Services Location Coeur d'Alene, ID Facility Kootenai Health Department Nursing - Administration Schedule/Shift/Hours Full Time - Days Category Management Hours Per Pay Period 80 = 1.0 Req #: 47574 Apply Now Save Job Saved Director Medical/Surgical Services In collaboration with administrative and medical staff leaders, provides tactical and strategic leadership for Medical/Surgical service units (including but not limited to 1N, 2E, 2S, 3E and EMU) at Kootenai Health (KH), including growth & development, implementation of new services/programs and optimization of current operations. Responsible for creating a supportive environment in which professional nursing practice can thrive, fostering clinical excellence aimed at achieving superior patient outcomes. Develops business and program plans, prepares financial presentations, analysis and budgets, proactively identifies solutions to identified problems and pursues opportunities within departments or programs. Responsibilities
- Accountable for achieving clinical excellence as measured by superior quality outcomes including but not limited to patient satisfaction, nurse sensitive quality indicators, nurse satisfaction and quality and safety indicators measured by organization
- Utilizes professional governance structure and Magnet® principles as a framework, builds high performing teams and ensures professional nursing practice standards are encultured within the department
- Upholds professional practice by holding staff accountable to standards of practice
- Ensures standards, protocols, policies and procedures are evidence based, up to date and meet regulatory requirements
- Responsible for management functions such as performance improvement, process management, business operations, resource utilization, leadership development and succession planning
- Provides leadership by building consensus and managing successful programs that supports approved initiatives, are customer focused and improves care delivery systems
- Responsible for developing business and program plans, preparing financial presentations, analysis and budgets, identifying potential issues and opportunities within the service lines and their related programs
- Works with other leaders within the organization, in both the inpatient and ambulatory care settings, to ensure coordinated care across continuum
- Oversees the contract provisions as appropriate
- Creates a positive, engaging work environment
- Facilitates teamwork and creates optimal patient outcomes
- Drives and manages change
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
- BSN or higher degree in nursing is required
- Master's degree in relevant field required
- State of Idaho Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multistate privilege to practice" compact with Idaho required
- 5 years' experience in hospital and healthcare management required
- Specialty certification in nursing leadership within 6 months of hire (CENP, NEA-BC, NE-BC or relevant other certification) required
- Broad and intensive understanding of clinical operations and the related functions of administration and the service lines
- Demonstrated business acumen and management skills associated with budgeting, program development, planning and execution
- Understanding of clinical information and computer systems as well as coding, billing and reimbursement relative to service offerings
- Knowledge of negotiations and change management
- Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements
- Excellent and proven leadership skills incorporating accountability, open communication and team building Working Conditions
