Reporting To:
Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health Services Department:
Behavioral Health Services Position Overview The Medical Director provides psychiatric care, clinical leadership, and medical oversight for Behavioral Health Services. This role includes direct patient care, consultation with clinical teams, participation in administrative decision-making, and oversight of psychiatric service delivery. The Medical Director collaborates closely with Behavioral Health leadership to develop and maintain high-quality in-person and telehealth psychiatric services. The position involves working with a diverse patient population, including children, adolescents, and adults presenting with mild to severe behavioral health conditions. This role requires a licensed psychiatrist with strong leadership experience, clinical expertise in child and adult psychiatry, and familiarity with community mental health systems. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments Perform medication management and medication reviews Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications Order and review laboratory tests as required Provide in-person and telehealth psychiatric services Treat both child and adult patient populations Provide care for patients with substance use disorders and dual diagnoses Leadership & Oversight Responsibilities Provide clinical oversight and consultation to multidisciplinary teams Participate in Behavior Treatment Committee meetings Review and approve behavior treatment plans Coordinate psychiatric services across the organization Support clinical decision-making and care planning Conduct regular meetings with psychiatric and clinical staff Provide guidance to clinicians and support staff Administrative Responsibilities Assist in development of clinical protocols and procedures Participate in quality improvement initiatives Monitor quality and appropriateness of psychiatric services Support compliance with regulatory standards Assist in recruitment and supervision of psychiatric staff Provide input into policies and service delivery models Patient Population Children and adolescents Adults Individuals with behavioral health conditions Substance abuse and dual-diagnosis patients Public and privately insured patients Required QualificationsEducation Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Board Certification in Child Psychiatry Licensing & Certifications Active Michigan Medical License Ability to prescribe medication DEA Registration (Preferred/Required for prescribing) Malpractice Insurance (Required) Substance Abuse Certification (Preferred) Required Experience Minimum 5 years of psychiatric clinical experience Experience treating both children and adults Experience with substance abuse and dual diagnosis Experience in community mental health settings preferred Experience working in nonprofit behavioral health preferred Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred Required SkillsClinical Skills Psychiatric evaluations Medication management Child psychiatry Adult psychiatry Substance abuse treatment Dual diagnosis treatment Behavioral treatment planning Leadership Skills Clinical oversight Team collaboration Policy development Quality improvement Staff supervision Multidisciplinary coordination Technology & Systems Experience with: Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Telehealth platforms Clinical documentation systems
