Hours:
20-30 hours/week (based on caseload) Job Overview We are seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist (MD or DO) to serve as Medical Director within an outpatient behavioral health program serving children, adolescents, and adults in Wayne County, Michigan. This role combines direct psychiatric care with clinical leadership, providing oversight, consultation, and quality assurance across multidisciplinary behavioral health services. The Medical Director will support both in-person and telehealth psychiatric care, working closely with Behavioral Health leadership to improve access, quality, and coordination of care for diverse populations, including patients with severe mental illness, substance use disorders, and dual diagnoses. Key Responsibilities Provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and medication management for child and adult patients Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, including lab ordering and follow-up Deliver clinical leadership, supervision, and consultation to psychiatric and behavioral health staff Participate in behavioral treatment committee (BTC) and approve behavior treatment plans Oversee psychiatric service delivery across outpatient and telehealth programs Support development of clinical policies, protocols, and care standards Lead quality improvement initiatives, compliance audits, and clinical reviews Conduct or participate in staff meetings, training, and clinical education Participate in recruitment, supervision, and performance evaluation of psychiatric providers Ensure adherence to regulatory, ethical, and documentation standards Required Qualifications MD or DO (Psychiatrist)
  • required Active, unrestricted Michigan medical license (or ability to obtain immediately) Board Certification in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (required) DEA registration with prescriptive authority Minimum 5+ years of clinical experience treating both children and adults Experience in outpatient behavioral health, community mental health, or nonprofit systems Experience managing substance use disorders and dual-diagnosis cases Experience with telepsychiatry and EMR systems Malpractice insurance appropriate for 1099 contractor role Reliable transportation and ability to meet onsite requirements Preferred Experience Prior Medical Director, Clinical Director, or psychiatric leadership experience Experience in Detroit/Wayne County community mental health systems Experience supervising psychiatrists, NPs, or multidisciplinary clinical teams Experience leading quality improvement or compliance initiatives Substance use/addiction psychiatry certification (preferred) Work Environment & Schedule Hybrid outpatient behavioral health setting Onsite presence in Westland, MI required (minimum 1-2 days/week; additional onsite based on clinical needs) Part-time schedule: 20-30 hours/week depending on caseload Combination of in-person and telehealth services Important Details This is a 1099 independent contractor position (not W-2 employment) No relocation assistance provided Candidates should be located within 25-30 miles of Westland, MI or willing to relocate independently Strong familiarity with Wayne County populations and community mental health systems is highly preferred Experience serving diverse, urban behavioral health populations is essential Technology Platforms Experience with telehealth and clinical systems including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and behavioral health EMR platforms is required.
