The Trauma Services Manager is responsible for ensuring that all services, including medical, nursing, and clinical support, and other system components are in place and functioning optimally to ensure an organized multi-disciplinary team approach to the care of the trauma patient. This position has responsibility for providing leadership for Trauma Services. This involvement begins with pre-hospital care and extends through re-integration into society for the trauma patients. This position identified the system needs, the GAP analysis and facilitates the attainment and compliance with requirements for American College of Surgeons level two trauma designation and works in close collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director. A BSN with Michigan Registered Professional Nurse Licensure required. Masters-Level degree, or working towards degree, required.License / Certification

TNCC required, TCAR preferred, Certification in trauma, emergency or critical care is preferred.Experience:
3-5 years clinical experience in care of acute trauma patients or in a trauma program. Leadership experience in a management, educator, project management or CNS role preferred. Experience with quality and performance improvement required.Skills & Abilities:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Team members may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Ensures that all components of a level two trauma center are in compliance. Collaborates with Trauma Medical Director in planning, developing, monitoring, and continuously improving all aspects of the Trauma Service Line. Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director to develop guidelines, communicate needed information, and provide feedback to all medical, nursing, and clinical support staff to ensure optimal quality care to trauma patients. Monitors care of trauma patients, both ED care and inpatient care and serves as a resource for clinical practice as it relates to trauma and best practice. Exhibits current, extensive knowledge of trauma care systems from pre-hospital care to inpatient and through discharge. Identifies system problems, analyzes root causes, and develops and oversees action plans utilizing process improvement techniques. Prepares, analyzes and coordinates informational statistical reports and special reports form any identified patient care issue or trauma quality improvement plan to the Trauma TOPIC Committee, the Trauma Peer Review Committee - and other pertinent committees/staff/management, as appropriate. Performs root cause analysis and develops and executes an action plan to ensure that care issues are resolved, and care is optimized. Assists with presentation of trauma Morbidity and Mortality conferences. Ensures educational preparedness for all medical ,nursing and clinical support staff in all areas that care for trauma patients. Activities include but are not limited to:providing instruction in trauma care and/or injury severity scoring, proper documentation, providing seminars or training options, and all aspects of evaluation and care of the trauma patient. Serves as an internal resource for staff in all departments and acts as an extended liaison for EMS agencies. Supervises and develops the Trauma Registrars to provide data for the UMH-West Trauma Service and regional and state registry. Represents UMH-West in various trauma forums as necessary such as Region 6 activities, Kent County Emergency Medical Services, Michigan Trauma Manager network and various committee and research activities within these organizations and actively participates in professional organizations that focus on the care of trauma patients. Develops and oversees an outreach and injury prevention program including community / public relations and professional presentations. Coordinates the organizations' program of community education in injury prevention. Develops and oversees the trauma budget and chairs the financial subcommittee for the Trauma Service Line. Maintains a minimum of 16 hours of trauma related continuing education per year as outlined by the American College of Surgeons guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols, and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.CLINICAL ACTIVITIES
Coordinates management across the continuum of trauma care, which includes planning and implementation of clinical protocols and practice management guidelines. Participates in patient rounding and staff rounding for trauma and ED patientsEDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITES
Provides intra-facility and regional professional staff development. Participates in case review, implement practice guidelines, and participate in community trauma education and prevention programsPERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
Works with the leadership team to monitor clinical processes, outcomes and system issues related to quality of care provided: develop quality filters, audits and case reviews: identify trends and sentinel events. Works with the Trauma Medical Director to identify cases for Trauma Peer Review and facilitate the peer review process while maintaining confidentiality. Works collaboratively with emergency department physicians on emergency department issues related to trauma care. Works collaboratively with all clinical support departments who provide services that impact the care of the trauma patientADMINISTRATION
Prepares and manages the Trauma Services budget. Manages all operational aspects of the trauma program. Serves as liaison to administration and represent the trauma program on various hospital and community committees to enhance optimal trauma care managementSUPERVISION OF THE TRAUMA REGISTRY
Supervises the collection, coding, scoring and development process for validation of data Designs the registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports and research where applicable while maintaining confidentialityCONSULTANT AND LIAISON
Facilitates optimal functioning of the complex network of many disciplines that work together to provide high-quality care to trauma patients. Serves as an internal resource for staff in all departments and act as a liaison for emergency medical service agenciesRESEARCH
Stays current on best practices for the care of trauma patients and identify areas where the needs to be improvement at UMH-West based on these findings. Facilitates protocol design for ensuring best practice in trauma care.COMMUNITY AND NATIONAL INVOLVEMENT IN TRAUMA CARE SYSTEM
