AnimalKind Community Veterinary Clinic AnimalKind is opening a low-cost, high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter and wellness clinic (with limited wellness care) in Raleigh, and we are looking for a compassionate, skilled veterinarian to serve as our founding Medical Director. This is an opportunity to help build something meaningful from the ground up — a nonprofit clinic centered on access to care, humane treatment, teamwork, and practical medicine that strengthens both pets and the people who love them. We are looking for a veterinarian who is an excellent surgeon, collaborative leader, thoughtful mentor, and strong advocate for accessible veterinary care.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Medical Director serves as the clinical leader of the clinic while also remaining deeply hands-on in surgery and patient care. This is a full-time practicing veterinarian role focused on delivering safe, efficient, high-quality spay/neuter surgeries while establishing the medical standards, protocols, and culture that will guide the clinic as it grows. You'll work in close partnership with the Executive Director, who oversees administrative and operational leadership, allowing you to focus on clinical excellence, medical oversight, team mentorship, and patient safety. The successful candidate will be required to work on site at the clinic in north Raleigh. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries Lead medical protocols, patient safety standards, and quality assurance efforts Recruit, mentor, train, and support veterinary staff alongside the Executive Director Foster a clinic culture grounded in teamwork, respect, accountability, and compassion Ensure humane handling and fear-free patient care practices Support efficient clinic flow and positive client experiences Collaborate closely with operational leadership to build a sustainable, mission-driven clinic Help educate clients and the community about sterilization and preventive care QUALIFICATIONS
Required DVM/VMD with active veterinary license in good standing 3-5+ years of surgical experience with strong spay/neuter proficiency Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Strong communication, leadership, and team-building skills Preferred HQHVSN, shelter medicine, or community medicine experience Experience mentoring veterinary teams Passion for nonprofit and access-to-care work OUR CULTURE
