Job Overview:
Emergency Department (ED) and prehospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) partners. This role is responsible for enhancing communication, identifying educational opportunities, and improving the quality of emergency care delivered to our community. The EMS Outreach Coordinator supports the outreach and quality requirements of Clara Maass's Trauma, Stroke, STEMI, Pediatrics, and other specialty programs, and acts as a key resource for hospital staff and physicians regarding prehospital care and EMS-related issues. The EMS Outreach Coordinator maintains a presence in CMMC Emergency Department to enable informal communication, provide real-time education, and build relationships with EMS and Emergency Department providers. This individual will review EMS and Emergency Department patient care records to identify trends and opportunities for improvement as well as provide education to pre-hospital providers. This individual works with Emergency Services leadership and other key stakeholders to advocate for and implement changes. The EMS Outreach Coordinator will facilitate and deliver EMS educational programming, including ALS Consortium, Emergency Education Center, and Simulation Center activities. These activities will span the spectrum, ranging from identifying areas of need through quality assurance/quality improvement activities, program required content, and developing and delivering new programming
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Graduate or GED Jersey EMT Certification Minimum of 3 years of experience in EMS, with at least 1 year in a leadership, supervisory, or educator role BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications Strong knowledge of EMS operations, hospital emergency department processes, and regulatory standards Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMS data management systems
Preferred:
Current Jersey Paramedic certification Bachelor's degree in healthcare, emergency management, or related field BLS, ACLS, and PALS instructor certifications
Certifications and Licenses Required:
High School Graduate or GED Jersey EMT Certification BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
Essential Functions:
Serve as the main point of contact between Clara Maass ED and EMS providers, fostering strong, supportive relationships with local EMS agencies and individual field providers. Maintain a visible presence in the ED to enable informal communication, provide real-time education, and build collaborative partnerships with EMS and hospital staff. Coordinate and facilitate communication between EMS partners and Clara Maass programs, including Emergency Medicine, Cardiology (STEMI), Pediatrics, and Neurology/Stroke. Provide guided access for EMS providers to hospital leadership to address and act on identified opportunities for improvement. Education & Training Develop, coordinate, and deliver ongoing education and training for EMS personnel, including continuing education, skills assessments, and simulation activities Facilitate and participate in scheduled EMS-related educational outreach programs, such as STEMI, Stroke, Trauma, Burn, and Pediatric events Collaborate with hospital departments and EMS leadership to identify educational needs and develop targeted programming Serve as an instructor for EMS educational offerings
Quality Improvement & Data Analysis:
Review EMS and ED patient care records to identify trends, quality issues, and opportunities for improvement Lead and participate in case reviews, particularly when requested by EMS providers, and provide feedback on patient outcomes Monitor real-time patient care transitions between EMS and ED staff to identify and implement process improvements Collect, analyze, and report EMS data to support operational decision-making, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement Set and communicate quality metrics and track progress toward system-wide quality improvement goals
Program Development & Outreach:
Support the requirements for programmatic designations (e.g., Stroke, STEMI, Pediatrics) by ensuring EMS integration and compliance. Represent Clara Maass Medical Center at EMS community events, regional EMS councils, and public safety meetings to promote hospital services and foster community partnerships. Solicit and incorporate feedback from EMS providers to identify and address areas for system-wide improvement.
Regulatory & Professional Engagement:
Ensure compliance with all relevant Jersey and federal EMS regulations and standards. Maintain knowledge of current state and national EMS certification requirements. Attend and represent Clara Maass at local, regional, and state EMS-related meetings, committees, and conferences as appropriate.
Scheduling Requirements:
Full-Time, Days Monday-Friday with occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call responsibilities as needed
