Job Description

Description Medical Director Responsible for the overall clinical management of the practice and program assigned to the practice as above, including direct supervision of all clinical providers (medical) and monitoring the practice and on-site programs for meeting the organization's access goals, quality performance measures, regulatory compliance, training programs, and research initiatives. Responsible for maintaining a clinical practice at the assigned site and meeting all responsibilities of an attending physician. Allocation of administrative and clinical time is dependent upon the size and range of programs at the site and assigned by the Regional Medical Director. Schedule will include at least one evening session weekly and one weekend day monthly unless changed approved by supervisor.
Requirements Specific Responsibilities Include:
Management Responsibilities:
Direct supervision of all providers who are assigned to this practice as their primary site Performs semiannual evaluations of all providers who are assigned to this practice as their primary site, and their annual competency evaluations Organizes monthly meetings with providers with documented minutes of meetings Participates in monthly office management meeting with nurse manager and office manager of site Ability to collaborate with all other clinical discipline as applicable to the site (dental, psychiatry and other clinical staff) Monitors and manages monthly: Site's Quality performance Site's Regulatory Compliance (Joint Commission, NCQA), include review of delinquent encounters, and attached providers in box and mailbox for review of compliance of results in box and consultation reports, and incident reports Accurate assignment of provider's clinical hours as required Provider's productivity and access Provider's Quality Performance (Peer Review and Clinical Registries) Provider 's Evaluation (Ongoing Provider Performance Evaluation) at practice site Provider's management of EMR email and patient portal Supervise the clinical performance of any training programs and trainees in collaboration with training program directors (e.g. Residency Program, Medical Student Rotations) at these sites when appropriate. Supervise the clinical performance or impact of any research programs operating at these sites when appropriate Collaborates with Nursing, Social Work and Administrative managers of the practice in the hiring and evaluation of practice staff, (and in reviewing of all patient complaints, incidents, assists in the EOC rounds of the practice) Communicates with their supervising regional medical directors regarding needs or requests of providers or practice staff Attends Regional Medical Director Meetings and Institute leadership meetings as assigned
Clinical Responsibilities:
Maintains active medical practice of assigned clinical sessions weekly Demonstrates competency in following areas
Medical Knowledge:
Demonstrates good fundamental knowledge of established clinical practice and use of Evidence Based Medicine Demonstrates sound clinical judgment Demonstrates appropriate use of consults Keeps current with the medical literature
Clinical Practice:
Provides compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient care Available to patients and staff Maintains good quality medical records. Demonstrates good clinical/technical skills Demonstrates excellent to superior quality performance as advanced by the Institute's initiatives. Demonstrates excellent clinical access as advanced by the Institute's initiatives
Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
Establishes and maintains professional, courteous, and respectful relationships with patients, families, colleagues and other members of the health care team Demonstrates an understanding and sensitivity to diversity and a responsible attitude towards his/her patients, profession and society.
Professionalism:
Demonstrates to continuous professional development (CME), and ethical practice. Fulfils CME requirement (50 hours CME/year) Timely Medical Record Completion Compliance with open encounter and peer review policies Timely response to patient portal requests Compliance with Institute Policy and Regulations Attends clinical site and program meetings as required
Systems-Based Practice:
Demonstrates an understanding of health care systems and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve and optimize health care. Advocates for quality of care on behalf of patients and the organization Demonstrates appropriate use of health system resources
Practiced-Based Learning and Improvements:
Uses scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate and improve patient care Demonstrates acceptable use of organization's best practice alerts, quality improvement initiatives, use of clinical registries, core measures compliance, and use of Evidence Based Medicine Demonstrates knowledge of CQI activities at
IF Teaching and Training:
Precepts residents, medical students, and other health professional trainees as appropriate Participation in Residency Faculty Meetings as appropriate
EDUCATION REQUIRED
Graduate of an accredited medical school and an accredited residency program
EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED
Demonstrates effective supervisory skills of clinicians Demonstrates superior clinical skills Demonstrates effective interpersonal, communication, organizational, and conflict management skills Demonstrates excellent computer skills Demonstrates ability to prioritize and organize activities of multiple tasks simultaneously. Previous clinical supervisory experience preferred. Previous leadership activities / Continuous Quality Improvement effectiveness preferred
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NY State Medical License active and unrestricted Board Certification to respective specialty board preferred
