Manager - Emergency Dept

The first line manager is designated as the professional nurse accountable for the delivery of 24/7 nursing care in the Emergency Department. As such, he/she is responsible for efficacy, efficiency and quality of patient care in collaboration with the Emergency Department Medical Director. He/she has 24/7 responsibility and accountability for all patient care activities, unit operations and staff function. Will occasionally be directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her Emergency Department assigned patients. This includes assessment of patient needs, including life threatening emergencies, development of a nursing plan of care, administration and evaluation of nursing care and supervision of others in the delivery of nursing care. Responsible for the operations of Urgent Care Clinic services, including Urgent Care Supervisor oversight. Acts in role of Trauma Coordinator.

Job Requirements Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to:

Thorough understanding of Emergency and Urgent Care Services operations and ability to apply that knowledge to departments to ensure quality and efficiency of care provided. Thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures; knowledge and skills in techniques of evidence based emergent and urgent patient care. Knowledge of ENA standards, practices, and recommendations. Must be dependable regarding attendance, self-motivated with excellent communication skills. Annually participates in at least 20 hours of continuing education and attends at least one management or specialty focused conference per year. License/Certification RN currently licensed with the Oregon State of Board of Nursing. BLS required. ACLS, TNCC/TEAM, PALS/ENPC, or equivalent certification preferred. CCRN and/or CEN preferred. Education and/or Experience Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN or BS degree or equivalent experience required. Previous satisfactory acute care hospital experience of five years and two years supervisory and/or management experience required. Previous satisfactory Emergency Department experience relevant to the patient population of this hospital. Previous experience with outpatient/urgent care clinic operations preferred. Must be able to read and write English as well as speak and understand English. May need to assist with staffing for short term needs such as lunch relief, vacations or illness Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance Works inside. Walking and standing much of the time while on duty. Ability to lift and transfer patients is required, usually with the assistance of co-workers. Normal or corrected vision is required. Normal or corrected hearing is necessary to distinguish differences in heartbeats, breathing, and monitor alarms. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment. Subject to physical and emotional stress of work environment. Occasional exposure to infectious diseases.
