What You'll Do The Collaborating Physician / Medical Director provides clinical oversight, consultation, quality assurance review, and administrative guidance to support the delivery of safe, effective, and compliant patient care services. This role partners closely with advanced practice providers and leadership teams to ensure compliance with Alabama Board of Medical Examiners regulations, Board of Nursing regulations, and organizational policies and procedures. The Collaborating Physician serves as a key clinical resource by supporting evidence-based care, reviewing quality assurance activities, assisting with protocol development, and providing ongoing consultation regarding patient care and regulatory compliance. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Provide professional medical oversight and direction for services performed under collaborative practice agreements. Remain available for physician consultation through telephone, electronic communication, or other approved methods. Review patient records and participate in ongoing quality assurance and chart review activities. Provide clinical guidance regarding patient diagnosis, treatment plans, referrals, and prescribing practices. Participate in the development, review, and revision of clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and standing orders. Support compliance with state and federal healthcare regulations, collaborative practice requirements, and prescribing standards. Assist with quality improvement initiatives, performance improvement planning, and patient safety efforts. Review adverse events, patient complaints, medication errors, and sentinel events when necessary. Participate in quarterly leadership meetings, collaborative practice meetings, and clinical operations reviews. Assist with accreditation activities, compliance audits, licensing reviews, and regulatory inquiries. Support the development and maintenance of evidence-based treatment protocols and workflows. Facilitate specialty referrals and collaborative care coordination when clinically indicated. Conduct site visits and collaborative practice activities as required under Alabama law. Maintain accurate and compliant documentation related to collaborative practice and quality assurance activities. QualificationsRequired Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Active and unrestricted Alabama medical license. Eligibility to serve as a Collaborating Physician under Alabama regulations. DEA registration and controlled substance prescribing authority, as applicable. Minimum of 2-5 years of clinical practice experience. Strong understanding of collaborative practice regulations and healthcare compliance requirements. Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to provide oversight and consultation in both in-person and remote environments. Preferred Prior experience serving as a Collaborating Physician or Medical Director. Experience supporting advanced practice providers in primary care or correctional healthcare settings. Familiarity with telemedicine platforms and remote clinical oversight. Experience participating in quality assurance, compliance, or accreditation activities. Multiple state medical licenses. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of clinical practice standards, healthcare regulations, and collaborative practice requirements. Ability to provide clinical oversight, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Knowledge of quality assurance processes, risk management, and patient safety principles. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while supporting multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills. Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous quality improvement. Physical and Technical Requirements Reliable high-speed internet connection for remote consultation and virtual meetings. Secure home office environment compliant with privacy and HIPAA regulations. Ability to use electronic health record (EHR) systems, telehealth software, and secure communication platforms.
