Job Description
The Director of Psychiatric Services at PAX Health is responsible for clinical leadership, strategic oversight, and delivery of high-quality psychiatric services across PAX Health. This role ensures the provision of comprehensive, patient-centered care, including psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, crisis intervention, and ongoing treatment planning for diverse patient populations. In addition to direct clinical care, the Director of Psychiatric Services provides oversight and supervision to psychiatric providers, including psychiatrists, PMHNPs, and support staff, ensuring adherence to best practices, regulatory standards, and organizational protocols. This individual plays a key role in shaping clinical programming, driving quality improvement initiatives, and aligning psychiatric services with broader organizational goals related to access, outcomes, and growth. The Director serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership, contributing to program development, operational planning, and performance management. This role requires a balance of clinical expertise and administrative leadership, with a focus on optimizing productivity, ensuring compliance, and fostering a collaborative, multidisciplinary care environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide psychiatric and administrative supervision to psychiatric professionals. Perform psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. Evaluate and review the work of psychiatric professionals for accurate diagnosis, treatment, and chart documentation. Develop and implement protocols and standardized procedures. Collaborate effectively and maintain positive relationships with departmental staff, referral sources, clients, and other stakeholders. Participate in the analysis, evaluation, and planning of health or mental health programs. Prepare clear and concise written and oral reports. Analyze situations accurately and determine effective courses of action. Conduct in-service training programs. Obtain State certification to supervise and direct mid-level practitioners. Utilize standard computer systems. Provide mental health court testimony when applicable, if specializing in psychiatry. Manage program productivity to meet budget targets. Review paperwork for documentation of clinical services and medical assessments. Be available to work evenings, weekends and be on call. Conduct and participate in staff meetings, development, and trainings when appropriate. Adhere to local, state, and federal confidentiality laws and regulations. Ensure compassionate, ethical, culturally competent care Abide by PAX Health code of ethics and model values Other duties as needed within the scope of the role.Requirements:
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school OR Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (PMHNP-BC) required Board Certification in Psychiatry required; subspecialty certification (e.g., Child & Adolescent Psychiatry) preferred Active, unrestricted medical license in the State of New Jersey (and/or ability to obtain) required DEA license and CDS (Controlled Dangerous Substances) registration required Minimum of 7-10 years of clinical psychiatric experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity Experience supervising psychiatrists, PMHNPs, or other behavioral health providers required Strong knowledge of psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based treatment modalities Experience in outpatient and/or community-based behavioral health settings preferred Demonstrated experience with program development, clinical operations, and quality improvement initiatives Familiarity with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and compliance requirements Proficiency with EHR systems and clinical documentation standards Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) Statement for PAX Health PAX Health is an equal opportunity employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.
