Medical Director About the Role Horizon Recovery is seeking a Director of Medical Services - Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to lead and oversee medical services across our adolescent behavioral health programs. This leadership role combines direct patient care with medical department oversight, ensuring safe, effective, and compliant medical services for adolescents receiving treatment. The position is structured as approximately 60% clinical care and 40% administrative leadership. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care- Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations and ongoing patient assessments
- Perform admission medical evaluations and medication reconciliation
- Prescribe and manage medications using evidence-based practices
- Monitor treatment response and medication safety
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and screenings
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, and treatment plans
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, and treatment teams Medical Department Leadership
- Supervise medical staff including Medical Assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners
- Oversee medication management systems and medication safety procedures
- Ensure compliance with medical documentation standards and regulatory requirements
- Support medical clearance for patient admissions
- Coordinate with external medical providers, pharmacies, laboratories, and hospitals
- Maintain reliable medical operations across programs Compliance & Quality Oversight
- Support compliance with Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) regulations
- Participate in regulatory audits and inspections
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR Work Environment This is a hybrid position combining remote work and onsite presence. Onsite visits may be required to support:
- Admission medical evaluations
- In-person patient assessments
- Collaboration with treatment teams
- Medical department oversight Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required to support admissions or urgent medical needs. Minimum Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted Arizona Nurse Practitioner license
- Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification
- Current DEA registration with prescribing authority
- CPR/BLS certification
- Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Experience working with adolescent populations preferred
- Behavioral health or residential treatment experience preferred
- Strong clinical documentation and EMR proficiency
