  • Contract Advantage Hospice Providers is seeking a compassionate, experienced physician to join our interdisciplinary team as a Hospice Medical Director Designee.
This position is designed for a physician who will work alongside our current Medical Director and be prepared to assume Medical Director responsibilities as needed. The Medical Director Designee provides physician oversight for hospice patients, participates in interdisciplinary care planning, supports hospice eligibility determinations, and ensures compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation. This is an excellent opportunity for a physician passionate about quality end-of-life care while maintaining a flexible schedule. Responsibilities Serve as Medical Director Designee under the supervision of the Hospice Medical Director. Certify and recertify hospice eligibility in accordance with Medicare guidelines. Review clinical documentation supporting terminal prognosis. Participate in Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meetings. Collaborate with nurses, social workers, chaplains, and hospice leadership. Provide physician guidance regarding symptom management and pain control. Be available for physician consultation regarding hospice patients. Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities. Assist during state surveys and accreditation visits as needed. Ensure compliance with CMS, California Department of Public Health, and hospice regulations. Support education of clinical staff regarding hospice best practices. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the following qualifications: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Current unrestricted California medical license DEA registration (preferred) Board Certified or Board Eligible Eligible to serve as a Hospice Medical Director under Medicare regulations Excellent communication and leadership skills Ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary hospice team Preferred Qualifications Experience in Hospice and Palliative Medicine Board Certification in Hospice & Palliative Medicine (preferred but not required) Experience caring for terminally ill patients Experience with Medicare hospice regulations Knowledge of CMS Conditions of Participation EMR experience Qualifications Post-residency experience in hospice or palliative care with supervisory responsibilities; prior hospital experience is highly desirable. Strong understanding of managed care models, healthcare compliance standards (including NCQA), and electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems). Demonstrated expertise in medical management, utilization review, and clinical research within a healthcare setting. Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology essential for effective patient care delivery. Proven leadership skills with experience supervising multidisciplinary teams and managing practice operations. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations, FDA guidelines, DEA regulations, and healthcare legal requirements. Excellent project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail. Effective communication skills to collaborate across departments and ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
