Job Description

Overview The Sober Connection is seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist to serve as Contract Medical Director for its behavioral health programs, including Inpatient Detox/Residential SUD and Inpatient Mental Health Residential services. This is a 1099 contract, hybrid leadership role requiring consistent on-site presence twice weekly to support clinical operations, staff oversight, and regulatory compliance. Duties Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for patients in Mental Health Residential and Detox/Residential SUD levels of care. Maintain on-site presence a minimum of one (1) day per week to conduct patient rounds, support nursing and clinical staff, and ensure quality of care. Serve as Medical Director overseeing all medical services across programs, ensuring alignment with state, federal, and accreditation standards. Supervise and collaborate with Nurse Practitioners in accordance with Ohio state regulations, including chart review, case consultation, and clinical guidance. Review, co-sign, and ensure timely completion of all required documentation in the EHR (admissions, progress notes, orders, discharges). Provide oversight of detox protocols, including
CIWA/COWS
management, medication tapers, and withdrawal safety practices. Approve, develop, and maintain medical and medication-related policies, procedures, and clinical protocols. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and care planning as needed. Attend and contribute to quarterly Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement meetings and support audit readiness (CARF, Joint Commission, state). Be available for remote consultation outside of on-site days for urgent clinical needs or provider support. Support staff education and training related to psychiatric care, withdrawal management, and best practices in behavioral health. Qualifications Medical degree (MD or DO) with Board Certification in Psychiatry ; addiction medicine experience strongly preferred. Active, unrestricted Ohio medical license and DEA registration. Professional liability insurance with minimum coverage of $1,000,000/$3,000,000. Minimum of 1 year of experience in behavioral health, addiction medicine, or similar setting (leadership experience preferred). Experience working in detox, residential, or inpatient psychiatric settings strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of ASAM criteria, withdrawal management protocols, and psychiatric best practices. Ability to work independently as a contractor while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
