The hospital features the largest emergency room in downtown San Antonio with 29 treatment beds, ongoing expansion plans, Chest Pain Center accreditation, and a Level IV Trauma designation serving approximately 50,000 patient visits each year. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, this leadership role oversees a team of approximately 100 employees, including managers, Clinical Nurse Coordinators, and EMS technicians. The Director is responsible for the overall clinical, operational, and financial performance of the Emergency Department while fostering a culture focused on quality, patient safety, and exceptional care. Key responsibilities include leading initiatives that improve clinical outcomes through evidence-based practice, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and promoting consistency in patient care. This position also oversees patient throughput by managing volume forecasts, coordinating patient flow, and supporting efficient admission and discharge processes. Success in this role requires close collaboration with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize operations and enhance the patient experience. The Director also manages departmental budgeting, monitors financial performance, identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, and maintains effective staffing and productivity practices. In partnership with hospital leadership and medical staff, this role helps evaluate and expand emergency services to meet the growing needs of the community.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required Bachelor's degree or approved education plan required Master's degree preferred Minimum of 1 year of applicable leadership experience required Three or more years of applicable leadership experience preferred
